Boise, ID -- 01/18/2022 -- Jay Bohner has been selected to serve as Capital High School's new Head Varsity Football Coach effective for the start of the 2022-2023 school year.
Coach Bohner's coaching experience includes serving as Head Football Coach at Casey-Westfield High School in Casey, Illinois (2017-2022); Head Football Coach, Kankakee High School, Kankakee, Illinois (2012-2014); Assistant Football Coach, Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, Illinois (1997-2008); Assistant Football Coach, Joliet Junior College, Joliet, Illinois (1995-1997); and Assistant Football Coach, Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School, Bourbonnais, Illinois (1993-1994).
Coach Bohner's football playing experience includes playing as an offensive lineman at Capital High School, Boise, ID (1986-1988) and as an offensive lineman at Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, Illinois (1989-1992).
"I am very excited to be coming home to Capital High School to serve as the head football coach", said Coach Bohner. "Capital High School and the football program are very special to me because it was during my time as a student-athlete at Capital that I developed a love for education and for the sport of football. As only the fourth coach in program history, it is my goal to carry on the rich tradition of not only winning on the field of play but also the tradition of mentoring young men as they transition into adulthood."
Coach Bohner said he plans to build on the strong traditions established at Capital. "One of the best feelings a varsity football player at Capital High School can have is on a Monday morning after a big win being recognized by the coaching staff as a Gurkha for outstanding play on defense or an Eagle for outstanding play on
offense. I look forward to carrying on the traditions of 'Gurkha Stick' and 'Eagle Score' at Capital. It is without question our identity as a program."
Coach Bohner earned a Bachelor of Science, Physical Education, minor- Social Science from Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, Illinois; and Master of Arts in Education, emphasis - Curriculum and Instruction, Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, Illinois.
