Water Supply Program Quarry/Chattahoochee/Hemphill

Update: Controlled blasting at the R.M. Clayton Water Reclamation Center (WRC)/ Chattahoochee Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is still underway. In addition, the filling of the Quarry continues.  The pump station buildings at the Quarry and Hemphill WTP are substantially complete. The Water Supply Program will increase Atlanta’s reserve water supply from three to five days to 30 to 90 days. The $320 million investment includes the construction of a five-mile tunnel connecting the Chattahoochee River, the Hemphill Water Treatment Plant, and the former Bellwood Quarry, which will be transformed into a 2.4 billion-gallon water reservoir. The Water Supply Program is currently scheduled for completion in Summer 2020.   Expected Completion: Summer 2020   Project Location: Northwest Atlanta   Council Districts: 3, 9   Neighborhood Planning Units: C, D, G, J, K

Upper Proctor Creek Capacity Relief Project Rodney Cook Sr. Park In Historic Vine City

Update: Contractors are working to complete clay liner this month and begin filling the pond along with compaction of the great lawn area. Green infrastructure installation is underway and will continue through the end of the project.   The Upper Proctor Creek Capacity Relief project: Rodney Cook, Sr. Park in Historic Vine City is a multi-phase effort to reduce flooding and combined sewer flows in the Vine City neighborhood. This project consists of a collection of innovative stormwater practices designed to redirect surface runoff away from the Beckwith Trunk and Mineral Springs combined sewer systems.   The capacity relief facility is currently under construction led by the Astra/Rohadfox, Joint Venture. The components of this project include a 2-acre pond (9+ MG capacity), green infrastructure (bioretention, stormwater planters, rainwater harvesting cisterns, and soil restoration), aerating water features, separated storm drain pipelines, new sidewalks and roadway improvements.    The Department of Watershed Management is working concurrently with The Trust for Public Land who is responsible for the build out of the adjacent park. In addition, The National Monuments Foundation will be constructing statues of historic figures throughout the finished park. Upper Proctor Creek - Boone Boulevard Green Infrastructure & Capacity Relief Project

Update:  Installation of the 30” water main down Joseph E. Boone Boulevard is complete. Contractors have finished all Green Infrastructure (GI) on both sides of Boone Blvd and will be placing new trash cans and benches in various locations throughout Boone Blvd. Contractors have completed all planter boxes on north side of Joseph E. Boone Blvd NW and continue laying sod and installing plants heading towards Joseph E. Lowery Blvd NW. Workers will start small diameter tie-ins to the newly installed water main along Boone Blvd.   This project will provide capacity relief to the North Avenue Combined Sewer Area and water quality improvements using the green infrastructure practice called bioretention, which is a specially landscaped area that captures runoff from an impervious surface and allows water to enter the soil. Proposed bioretention areas will span approximately 1.2 miles along Boone Blvd from Mayson Turner Road to Northside Drive that will collect stormwater runoff from along the sides of the road.   Expected Completion: June 2020   Project Location: Northwest Atlanta   Council District: 3   Neighborhood Planning Unit(s): L

Energy Services Performance Initiatives – Noresco

Update: Dryer System at RM Clayton (WRC) is ready to start up; due to Covid-19 travel ban, the Suez team from Spain is unable to fly to the US to perform the work. Once restrictions are lifted they will be back on site to complete the work.   Contractors at RM Clayton working on the UV Systems upgrade have taken channel 2 offline to begin replacement work. The project team has cleaned the channel and begun removing existing equipment.   Three Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) for a software system to optimize the City's water distribution system is being implemented. This includes: A new Class A bio-solids system, office space at R.M. Clayton WRC, and a replacement of ultraviolet disinfection system with new Trojan UV Signa System. Energy Services Performance Initiatives – Schneider

Update: Contractors out at South River (WRC) working on the Ammonia-based aeration control (ABAC) are nearing completion. Work continues on the digesters with team addressing minor issues and conducting startup/training to finalize installation.    At the Utoy Creek (WRC) work continues on the Low-Energy Thickening with demoing of remaining centrifuge for second Volute Press Installation.   Facility infrastructure improvements are underway at the Hemphill Water Treatment Plant, South River WRC, Utoy Creek WRC, Chattahoochee Water Treatment Plant and 14th St. Administration Complex.   Expected Completion : December 2020   Project Location : RM Clayton WRC, Hemphill WTP (Settled Solids only), South River WRC, Utoy Creek WRC, Chattahoochee Water Treatment, and 14th St. Admin Complex   Council Districts : 1, 3, 8, 9, 10   Neighborhood Planning Units : C, D, E, G, H, Z
