Capture the Moment with Jay Schmoldt
For most athletes, sports are about competition, camaraderie, and personal achievement. For Jay Schmoldt `27, marketing major, sports are also about storytelling, capturing the emotion, movement, and excitement that make the games unforgettable.
For Schmoldt, the heart of his work lies in storytelling. He doesn’t stage moments or script scenes. Instead, he captures raw, authentic plays as they happen and transforms them into something memorable.
“I almost enjoy creating content around sports as much as I do playing,” he said. “There are things athletes do on the field or the ice that I could never do. Being a small part of telling that story makes me happy. I want athletes to feel proud of their accomplishments, to see themselves in the spotlight, and to showcase what they’ve achieved.”

Being Lutheran
This week at Candlelight & Conversations, we welcome Rev. Rebecca Grate from the Southern Ohio Synod (ELCA) to lead a conversation and time of prayer about the bold, beautiful, and inclusive reality of being a Lutheran campus.
Candlelight & Conversations
“What does it mean that Capital is Lutheran?”
Thursday, August 28
8:08 p.m.
Schenk Chapel, Gloria Dei Worship Center
Trinity Lutheran Seminary
Since its inception in 1850, Capital University has been tied to the Lutheran Church, but what does that mean? Who are Lutherans? How is a "Christian university" different? Are there safe spaces for other faiths and traditions here? Rev. Grate is a member of Synod staff from the Southern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and does great work in non-geographic ministry, among other things.
| | The Art of Presence: Contemporary Realism from Ohio Artists | |
The Ohio Representational Art Collective brings together artists living and working in Ohio who are dedicated to the craft of contemporary realism. This group exhibition highlights the Collective’s diverse talent and showcases the breadth of representational art. With drawings, paintings, and sculptures by artists from various cultural, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, the selected works were chosen for both their conceptual depth and technical excellence focusing on quiet, everyday subjects – capturing mundane moments with grace and sensitivity. Rendered with the discipline of Old Master techniques, the work invites viewers to see the poetry in the ordinary and experience classical realism through a contemporary lens.
