Alpine

Wellness Center

____On October 4th, Alpine County celebrated a special place with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Wellness Center. The event brought together students, families, community partners, school staff, and tribal members. Ken J. Burkhart, Superintendent of Alpine County & District Schools, reflected on the journey to open the center and expressed gratitude to everyone involved. Geoffrey Ellis, Chairman of the Woodfords Community Council and Alpine School Employee, delivered a land acknowledgment and shared his thoughts on the center's importance.

____Key contributors participated in the ribbon-cutting, marking the opening of this vital space dedicated to supporting young people in the rural community. Each student received a t-shirt and a goodie bag, and they explored the center designed for their well-being. The school-based Wellness Center offers essential mental health resources, counseling, and health education, providing a safe space for students to address personal challenges and build resilience. This space highlights the incredible power of community collaboration in supporting the well-being of all young people.

Supporting physical health at school:

Partnership with your local county health department can help to reduce barriers to accessing health care and bring a wide range of essential health services to your school community.

Additionally, don’t overlook the invaluable role of your school nurse! Many school nurses have access to vouchers and programs that provide free or reduced-cost dental and vision services for students. Together, we can ensure that every child has the support they need to thrive.
