2023 LEGISLATIVE SESSION: WEEK 2
This marked the second week of the 2023 Regular Legislative Session and both chambers began to move significant priority legislation of the Florida Alliance of Children’s Councils & Trusts. On Monday, March 13th,  SB 246 Florida Kidcare Program Eligibility was introduced by Senator Alexis Calatayud, (R- Miami) in the Senate Committee on Health Policy where it passed unanimously.  Monday afternoon also saw SB 676 Background Screenings introduced by Senator Erin Grall, (R- Ft. Pierce) which also passed unanimously out of the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice. On Tuesday, March 14th, SB 990 Child Care and Early Learning Providers by Senator Erin Grall, (R- Ft. Pierce) was also introduced and received unanimous support from the Senate Committee on Education Pre-K -12. Additionally, on Thursday, March 16th, HB 121 Florida Kidcare Program Eligibility by Representative Robin Bartleman, (D- Weston) passed unanimously out of the House Healthcare Regulation Subcommittee.

Furthermore, there was major movement in the House with HB 1 School Choice, by Representative Kaylee Tuck, (R-Lake Placid) passing out of the House and now in messages to the Senate. Its companion SB 202 K-12 Education by Senator Corey Simon, (R- Tallahassee) passed out of its final committee the Senate Committee on Appropriations on Thursday, March 16th, and is poised to be taken up on the Senate floor.
