This marked the fifth week and the halfway point of the 2024 Regular Legislative Session. Both chambers continued to move significant substantive legislation marking another jampacked week.
On Monday, February 5th, HB 1425 Juvenile Justice by Representative Taylor Yarkosky, (R- Clermont) passed its second committee stop in the House Justice Appropriations Subcommittee. In the Senate Committee on Judiciary the companion bills to the House’s Social Media priorities SB 1788 Social Media Use for Minors and SB 1792 Online Access to Materials Harmful to Minors by Senator Erin Grall, (R-Ft. Pierce) were introduced and reported favorably.
On Tuesday, February 6th, HB 207 Social Media Protection for Minors by Representative Michele K. Rayner, (D- St. Petersburg) was introduced in the House Regulatory Reform & Economic Development Subcommittee. In the Senate Committee Children, Families, and Elder Affairs Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez, (R- Doral) presented SB 274 Child Water Safety Requirements where it passed its second committee. In the House PreK - 12 Appropriations Subcommittee Representative Mike Redondo, (R- Miami) presented HB 1169 Coordinated Systems of Care for Children where it also passed its second committee. In the Senate Committee on Health Policy, Senator Erin Grall, (R- Ft. Pierce) introduced SB 1442 Pregnancy Support Services where it passed unanimously. Rounding out Tuesday, Representative Demi Busatta Cabrera, (R- Coral Gables) presented HB 581 Swimming Lesson Voucher Program in the House Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee in its second committee stop.
On Wednesday, February 7th, the House Judiciary Committee met to take up HB 1181 Juvenile Justice by Representative Berny Jaques, (R- Clearwater) where it passed its final committee stop before heading to the House floor.
On Thursday, February 8th, the House Health & Human Services heard HB 415 Pregnancy and Parenting Resources Website by Representative Berny Jaques, (R-Clearwater) where it also passed its final committee stop. The House Appropriations Committee took up HB 185 Dependent Children by Representative Dana Trabulsy, (R- St. Lucie) and HB 1267 Economic Self-sufficiency by Representative Adam Anderson, (R- Tarpon Springs) where both were reported favorably. The Senate Appropriations Committee on Health and Human Services heard SB 168 Congenital Cytomegalovirus Screenings by Senator Tina Polsky, (D- Boca Raton) and SB 436 Pregnancy and Parenting Resources Website by Senator Erin Grall, (R- Ft. Pierce) which represented each bills second committee stop. In the Senate Committee on Finance and Tax, SB 820 Child Care and Early Learning Providers by Senator Erin Grall, (R- Ft. Pierce) was passed in committee. Additionally, in the Senate Appropriations Committee on Criminal and Civil Justice the following three bills were presented and reported favorably: SB 864 Autism Spectrum Disorder Training for Law Enforcement and Correctional Officers by Senator Jay Collins, (R- Sarasota), SB 1224 Dependent Children by Senator Colleen Burton, (R- Lakeland), and SB 1352 Juvenile Justice by Senator Jennifer Bradley, (R- Fleming Island). Finally, in the Senate Appropriations Committee on Education, Senator Erin Grall, (R- Ft. Pierce) presented SB 1026 Early Learning where it passed its second committee stop.
