2025 LEGISLATIVE SESSION: WEEK 3

Welcome to Capitol Connection week 3. This week the legislature continued to introduce new bills as substantive committees continue to meet. On Monday, March 17th the Senate Appropriations Committee on Prek-12 Education took up multiple bills including SB 1102 School Readiness Program and SB 1382 Access to School Readiness Programs for Economically Disadvantaged Households, by Senator Alexis Calatayud, (R-Miami) which both passed their first committee stop.
On Tuesday, March 18th the House Student Academic Success Subcommittee heard HB 591 Children with Developmental Disabilities, by Randy Maggard, (R- Zephyrhills) and HB 1255 Education, by Representative Dana Trabulsy, (R- Fort Pierce) passed its first committee stops. The Senate Criminal Justice Committee took up SB 1692 Material that is Harmful to Minors, by Senator Stan McClain, (R- Ocala) which passed favorably.
On Wednesday, March 19th the Senate Committee on Children, Families, and Elder Affairs took up SB 1286 Harming or Neglecting Children, by Senator Erin Grall, (R- Fort Pierce) which passed unanimously. The House Education Administration Subcommittee heard HB 1367 Student Attendance, by Representative Erika Booth, (R- Orlando) and HB 969 Reporting of Student Mental Health Outcomes, by Representative Hillary Cassel, (R- Hollywood) which both passed favorably. The House Health Care Facilities & Systems Subcommittee heard HB 1085 Children’s Medical Services Program, by Representative Vanessa Oliver, (R- Punta Gorda) which passed. The House Industries & Professional Activities Subcommittee took up HB 743 Social Media Use by Minors, by Representative Michelle Salzman, (R- Cantonment) which passed favorably.
On Thursday, March 20th the House Education and Employment Committee took up HB 1405 Juvenile Justice, by Representative Berny Jacques, (R- Clearwater) which passed its first committee stop. In the House Health Professions & Program Subcommittee, HB 1089 Newborn Screenings, by Representative Erika Booth, (R- Orlando) was passed unanimously in its first committee stop.
