This week kicked off the start of Florida’s 126th Regular Legislative Session. On Tuesday, January 9th Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, (R- Naples) addressed the Senate Chamber with her opening remarks that may be found here. Speaker of the House Paul Renner, (R- Palm Coast) also addressed the House Chamber with his opening remarks that may be found here. Governor Ron DeSantis also gave his annual State of the State address to all members of the legislature and his remarks may be found here.
Committees continued to meet with bills being introduced including HB 415 Pregnancy and Parenting Resources Website, by Representative Berny Jaques, (R- Pinellas) was passed in the House Healthcare Regulation Subcommittee. HB 1 Social Media Use for Minors, by Representative Tyler Sirois, (R- Brevard) and HB 3 Online Access to Materials Harmful to Minors, by Chase Tramont , (R- Port Orange) passed out of the House Regulatory Reform & Economic Development Subcommittee.
Furthermore, there was major movement in Senate priority legislation with its deregulation of public school requirements as it was moved to the Senate floor on Wednesday, January 10th. There was also movement of HB 49 Employment and Curfew of Minors, by Representative Linda Chaney, (R- Pinellas) which passed out of the House Education Quality Subcommittee. On Thursday, January 11th, SB 214 Child Protection Teams, by Senator Gayle Harrell, (R- Martin) passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee on Health and Human Services.
