2024 LEGISLATIVE SESSION: WEEK 3

Senator Travis Hutson (R-Palm Coast) and Representative Robin Bartleman (D-Weston)

This marked the third week of the 2024 Regular Legislative Session, and both chambers began rolling out their initial budget proposals. The House budget proposal may be found here.  The Senate budget proposal may be found here.  The budget proposals for both chambers will continue to be refined during the coming weeks until a final budget is published.

 

Substantive legislation also moved this week. On Monday, January 22nd, HB 635 Child Care and Early Learning was introduced by Representative Fiona McFarland, (R- Sarasota) in the House Ways and Means Committee where it passed unanimously. On Tuesday, January 23rd, SB 864 Autism Spectrum Disorder Training for Law Enforcement and Correctional Officers was introduced by Senator Jay Collins, (R- Sarasota) where it passed unanimously in the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice. Continuing on Tuesday in the Senate Committee on Health Policy, SB 168 Congenital Cytomegalovirus Screenings by Senator Tina Polsky, (D- Boca Raton) and SB 436 Pregnancy and Parenting Resources Website by Senator Erin Grall, (R- Ft. Pierce) were introduced and passed.

 

On Wednesday, January 24th, HB 581 Swimming Lesson Voucher Program by Representative Demi Busatta Cabrera, (R- Coral Gables) and HB 1609 Pregnancy Support Services by Representative Cyndi Stevenson, (R- St. Augustine) were introduced and passed unanimously in the House Healthcare Regulation Subcommittee. Wednesday also included introduction of HB 1267 Economic Self-sufficiency by Representative Adam Anderson, (R- Tarpon Springs) and HB 1083 Permanency for Children by Representative Dana Trabulsy, (R- St. Lucie) in the House Children & Seniors Subcommittee. Additionally, SB 544 Swimming Lesson Voucher Program by Senator Travis Hutson, (R- Palm Coast) passed its second committee stop in the Senate Appropriations Committee on Health and Human Services.  Finally, priority House legislation HB 1 Social Media Use for Minors by Representative Tyler Sirois, (R- Merritt Island) and HB 3 Online Access to Materials Harmful to Minors by Representative Chase Tramont, (R- Port Orange) passed the full House and have been referred to the Senate.

 

Thursday, January 25th, rounded out the week for the Florida Alliance of Children’s Councils & Trusts tracked legislation with the introduction of HB 847 School Readiness Program by Representative Robin Bartleman, (D- Weston) and HB 417 Educational Services in Department of Juvenile Justice Programs by Representative Johanna Lopez, (D-Orlando), as well as, the second committee stop for HB 929 School Readiness Program by Representative Dana Trabulsy, (R- St. Lucie) in the House Education Quality Subcommittee.
