2025 LEGISLATIVE SESSION: WEEK 2

This marked the second week of the 2025 Regular Legislative Session, and both chambers began to move significant priority legislation of the Florida Alliance of Children’s Councils & Trusts. On Tuesday, March 11th the House Prek-12 Budget Subcommittee had a panel discussion on the Implementation of the Fiscal Year 2024-25 School Readiness Provider Reimbursement Rates and the School Readiness Plus Program. Additionally the House Human Services Subcommittee took up HB 531 Child Care Facility and Background Screening Requirements, by Representative Christine Hunschofsky, (D-Coconut Creek) which passed unanimously. The House Student Academic Success Committee took up HB 423 Family Empowerment Scholarship Program, by Representative Robin Bartleman, (D- Weston) which passed favorably. In the Senate the Senate Committee on Education PreK-12 took up SB 508 Family Empowerment Scholarship Program, by Senator Shevrin “Shev” Jones, (D- Miami Gardens) which passed unanimously.
On Wednesday, March 12th the Senate Committee on Children, Families, and Elder Affairs took up several bills including SB 304 Specific Medical Diagnoses in Child Protective Investigations, by Senator Barbara Sharief, (D- Davie), SB 738 Child Care and Early Learning Providers, by Senator Colleen Burton, (R- Winter Haven), and SB 1626 Child Welfare, by Senator Erin Grall, (R- Fort Pierce) which all passed unanimously. The Senate also went into Session to take up SB 112 Children with Developmental Disabilities, by Senator Gayle Harrell, (R- Stuart) which passed off the Senate floor with 38 yeas and 0 nays.
