2025 LEGISLATIVE SESSION: WEEK 1
| |
|
This week kicked off the start of Florida’s 127th Regular Legislative Session. On Tuesday, March 4th Senate President Ben Albritton, (R- Wauchula) addressed the Senate Chamber with his opening remarks that may be found here. President Albritton’s opening day remarks reiterated his focus on serving rural Florida, including SB 110 filed last week by Senator Corey Simon. In addition to his focus on rural and agricultural issues, he underscored the importance of improving access to services for children with Autism and SB 112 filed by Senator Gayle Harrell. Speaker of the House Daniel Perez, (R- Miami) also addressed the House Chamber with his opening remarks that may be found here. Speaker Perez outlined his focus on the property insurance crisis that is impacting the State of Florida. Traditionally, the Speaker’s priority bill is marked as ‘House Bill 1’. This year, there is no House Bill 1. Instead, he further confirmed that his priority will be ensuring the Florida House focus on the work of the people.
Governor Ron DeSantis also gave his annual State of the State Address to all members of the legislature and his remarks may be found here. The Governor's State of the State Address followed familiar conservative themes from prior legislative sessions.
Committees continued to meet on Tuesday with bills being introduced including HB 47 Child Care and Early Learning Providers, by Representative Fiona McFarland, (R- Sarasota) which passed unanimously in its first committee the House Human Services Subcommittee.
On Thursday, March 6th the Senate Committee on Fiscal Policy took up SB 112 Children with Development Disabilities, by Senator Gayle Harrell (R- Stuart) its second committee stop where it passed favorably.
Additionally, we have updated the bill tracker with bills that have been filed for the 2025 legislative session.
As always, we look forward to bringing you weekly information on legislation that effects Florida’s communities, children, and families throughout the 60-day Regular Legislative Session.
Until next time!
Sincerely,
The Florida Alliance of Children’s Councils & Trusts
