Assistant Caucus Chair; Chair of Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources Committee;
Member of Business Affairs and Labor Committee
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Saturday, I was nominated by acclamation for re-election at the Larimer County Assembly. It has been the ultimate privilege representing Fort Collins. This is my third time running for House District 53 and I couldn't be more excited. Thank you all for supporting me these past four years!
The final vote on the Long Bill.
Last night, the House debated the state's budget, known as the Long Bill. This year's budget is just under $28.9 billion. As a legislature, we are legally required to pass a balanced budget. I do not normally run an amendment on the budget, however this year I did and it passed. My amendment requires film companies receiving state tax incentives to hire diverse casts and crews when filming in Colorado. Next week, the Senate will debate the budget, then we will have a conference committee to iron out the final details.
Testifying on SB18-143.
In Monday's Agriculture Committee, my Colorado Parks and Wildlife bill passed on a 9-4 vote. During the committee, sportsmen from around the state testified on the importance of sustainably funding CPW. The division is an enterprise, meaning their funding comes from fees. These fees have not been raised since 2005, creating some serious budget shortfalls. Colorado's wildlife and outdoor spaces are among our most valuable resources. We must invest in our public lands to ensure future generations have access to what makes Colorado great.
The March for Our Lives Rally at Old Town.
Last weekend, I attended the March for Our Lives Rally in Fort Collins to support our students. Over 1,000 people gathered to hear from concerned students. Gun control saves lives and is necessary to keep guns out of dangerous peoples' hands. I have faith in our youth to lead the charge in advocating for common sense gun policy. I recently proposed a bill to finance a gun violence study at the state level since the Dickey Amendment prohibits us from doing this at a federal level.
You are all invited to join me, Rep. Joann Ginal, and Sen. John Kefalas for a Town Hall at Old Town Library on Saturday, April 7th from 3:30pm-5:00pm. The address is 201 Peterson St, Fort Collins, CO 80524. Please note the different time. We will be taking questions. Please join us!
As always, feel free to call me anytime at 970-231-5090 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
