Dear Friends and Neighbors,
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for once again trusting me to be your House District 53 Representative. I am humbled by the outpour of support I received during my re-election. I look forward to another term working hard for Fort Collins residents.
Recently, I was elected Vice Chair of the
Council of State Governments West. CSG West is a non-partisan organization founded in 1947 to serve western state legislatures. It promotes the exchange of ideas across party lines while helping legislators build strong relationships. I became involved in CSG West my first legislative session as a way to learn how to collaborate with others to get meaningful work done.
I have also been selected Co-Chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures'
Agriculture Task Force. The Ag Task Force allows lawmakers from across the country to come together and explore policies to better the lives of rural Americans. People who live in less populated regions of the country face unique challenges that can sometimes be overlooked. The Task Force aims to address concerns such as rural development and strengthening the agriculture industry.
In December, I'll be headed southwest with water experts for an in depth look at the drought situation at Lake Powell. In recent years, the Colorado River Basin has seen exceptionally low snowpack as well as higher than normal temperatures. On top of that, water demands from cities and farms are exceeding what water is available. Lake Powell is about 48% full, and there have been many proposals on how to deal with overuse. Last session,
I sponsored three water reuse bills and two bills allowing water flexibility on farms and ranches. The status quo on how we use water is simply unsustainable, so it's time to get creative!
You're invited! As a way of saying thanks, I'll be hosting a celebratory post-election party at the
Swing Station on Friday, November 16th. This is a NON-PARTISAN EVENT! Everyone is invited! The bar tab (for beer and wine) will be on me from 7 - 9 PM--or until I'm out of money--whichever comes first. So, stop by and let's cheers to our wonderful community---Fort Collins!
If you're having a great time and want to continue the party, stay at the
Swing Station for
The Wyatts. The band will take the stage at 9 PM, with a $7 cover.
See you there!
