Capitol Update
Representative Jeni Arndt- HD 53
Assistant Caucus Chair; Chair of Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources Committee;
Member of Business Affairs and Labor Committee

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Bill update:

My first bill made it out of the House on third reading. HB18-1095 is a bill that addresses the teacher shortage by allowing military spouses to obtain a Colorado teaching license if they have been successful teachers at previous locations.

A Senate bill I co-primed with Senator Merrifield regarding campaign finance reform for school board elections died in the Senate. I pledge to continue working on campaign finance reform and getting big money out of politics as long as I serve you.

I am running three bills that allow expanded use for reclaimed water-toilet flushing, marijuana and edible crops. See the above graphic for states where this is already legal. In a water short area like Colorado, efficient use of reclaimed water is essential.

" Recycled water  is a big part of Colorado's strategy to meet future water needs of the Denver metro area and beyond," said Denver Water CEO/Manager Jim Lochhead. "It was identified as a  supply strategy in the state water plan , and as part of that effort, Denver Water is pursuing expanded uses of recycled water."

Colorado State Forest gave their annual update on forest health to joint Ag Committee.

Three Poudre School District teachers came to the Capitol to lobby for public education. I am all in and a big fan because public education is the backbone of our country.

Community health based centers, such as Salud, provide wonderful healthcare to a critical population. I was glad to see them down here advocating for long-term stability of their programs.
A group of community leaders from around the state has been charged with determining whether Denver should submit a bid for a future Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The Sharing the Gold engagement plan is meant to spur discussion about whether hosting an Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games would be good for Denver and the entire state.  The group hopes to receive a wide range of input, so below is an online survey to share feedback, concerns and ideas:  www.sharingthegold.org
