Capitol for a Day is an initiative of Governor Phil Scott. Gov. Scott, along with his cabinet and extended cabinet, will be visiting each of Vermont's 14 counties to host events, tour facilities and projects, meet with citizens, and answer questions.
 
The Vermont Department of Taxes was pleased to participate in last year's Capitol for a Day series and looks forward to another successful year. On Tuesday, August 20, the Department, along with other state agencies, will host several events.

The 2019 Legislative Session and Legislative Changes

This event will be led by Douglas Farnham, Director of Policy at the Vermont Department of Taxes, and Adam Greshin, Commissioner of the Department of Finance and Management. It will include a discussion of the 2019 legislative changes that directly impact the administration of taxes and finances in the State of Vermont.

Roundtable Discussion on Taxation of Prewritten Software Accessed Remotely
 
During the legislative session, the Vermont General Assembly considered a repeal of the Vermont Sales Tax exemption protecting prewritten software accessed remotely. Topics of discussion will include:
  • the current sales tax exemption for prewritten software accessed remotely
  • the technology industry's responsibilities under the current law
  • possible repeal of the exemption
The event will be led by Douglas Farnham, Director of Policy at the Vermont Department of Taxes, and Shawn Nailor, Deputy Secretary of the Agency of Digital Services. It will be of particular interest to those employed in the technology sector as well as those who access and purchase prewritten software via online platforms.
