SIZZLING SCORES, HOT COMPETITION AND A SPLASH OF COLOUR CAPTURES THE SCENE AT WILDFIRE
Douro-Dummer, ON (June 20, 2016) – This week, the Tour made its annual trek east, to the heart of Ontario's Kawartha cottage country, to play the Capture Scratch Classic, at the spectacular
Wildfire Golf Club. A Tom McBroom design, Wildfire is a challenging, but fair masterpiece, nestled along the forested shores of Stony Lake. A par 72, championship golf course that wanders majestically through 210 acres, the layout blends the best elements of cottage country courses with lovely views, affording an escape into pristine, Eastern Ontario forests. The day would be filled with sunny skies, great camaraderie, heavy heat and the
Pink and
Purple of the players’ clothing. Players were set for a fantastic day.
As the day got underway, Champ Flighter Ryan Taylor would bust out of the gates early to beat the heat, carding a 77 for the win. Wildfire member Dominic Marchesano would finish second, with a 79. The A Flight would have a battle for the top brewing with Brent Brandham hanging on to the win by carding a very tidy 79. However, he was being watched closely by Matt Ward and Rick Wright who both turned in matching 80's to finish second and third respectively. As the day heated up, so did the competition, as B Flight Tour veteran Bob Chapman would come out swinging his way to a sizzling hot 75 for the win. Jeff Gatcke would also be feeling the heat (of competition), and shot a super 79, for the second place finish. C Flight would see a dandy round of 88, shot by Duane Gomes. Sandy Zajac was a close second, carding 91, and, only two shots shy of a win. Senior A would have a first time winner this week as Doug Stewart shot 89. Senior B would end in a tie, with Ken May and Rick Dunn both with 103. Due to a lightning storm halting play, card matching was used to determine the winner - Ken May. The Women's Flight was won by Sandra Stuckless, with a net 91 and her third victory of the year!
