Students Return Tuesday, January 7th

Students will return to campus on January 7th. Doors will open at 8:00 am and students should report to their 1st period class.

2nd Semester Schedules

Cardinals, we look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday. Please check your schedule in PowerSchool. It is not uncommon for a schedule to change- or shift between semesters. Everyone will head to their first-period class when they arrive on Tuesday!

A Message from Mr. Niggli:

Dear Bellaire High School Parents and Community,

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope that you had a restful and joyful winter break, filled with cherished moments with family and friends. As we begin the second half of the school year, the Bellaire faculty and staff are excited to reconnect with all of our students and families, and we look forward to continuing the journey of learning and growth together. Please note that all classes resume on Tuesday, January 7th at 8:30 am. Bellaire is physically a large campus, so please have your child on campus by 8:20 am daily (doors open at 8:00 am) so that he or she can be seated in class and ready to learn.

This is a wonderful time of year to set new goals, reflect on the progress we've made, and embrace the opportunities ahead. We are committed to providing a supportive and engaging environment for every student, and we are eager to continue our partnership with you to help them succeed.

As we resume classes, please take a moment to check in with your child about their experiences and any upcoming projects or assessments. Staying informed and involved will ensure that we can work together to address any needs and celebrate the successes of the coming months.

The STAAR interim assessments for Algebra I, English I, and English II will take place in January, and they will provide an important gauge for how the school and students are doing as we all work towards success on this year’s STAAR tests. Please note the following important dates and reminders for the upcoming weeks:

  • January 21st: PTO General Meeting 6:00 pm
  • January 22nd: STAAR Interim Algebra I
  • January 23rd: STAAR Interim English I
  • January 24th: STAAR Interim English II
  • February 13th: Coffee with The Principal 9:00 am
  • February 19th – March 7th: TELPAS Administration Window (Emergent Bilingual students only)
  • April 2nd: School Day SAT Administration
  • April 10th – April 29th: STAAR Testing Window (specific dates forthcoming)
  • April 25th – May 21st: IB Testing Window
  • May 5th – 16th: Advanced Placement Testing Window

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher, assistant principal, counselor, or our school office. We are here to support you and your child in every way possible.

Also, thank you in advance for ensuring that your student is dressed appropriately for school every day. Bellaire High School does not have a school uniform at this time, but there is a dress code. The dress code one-pager is attached for easy reference and it is also found in the student handbook on our school website: Dress Code English and Spanish 24_25.pdf

The continued partnership with our parents is truly appreciated. We are excited for all that lies ahead this semester and look forward to making it the best one yet!

Warm Regards,

Michael Niggli, Principal

8 Tips to Crush Your New Semester

Starting a new semester can feel like a mix of excitement and stress, but don’t worry. Follow these 8 tips to set yourself up for an awesome semester!

1. Set Goals You’re Excited About 🎯

Think about what you want to achieve this semester. Is it better grades, making new friends, or joining that club you’ve been eyeing? Write down your goals and keep them where you can see them.

2. Get Organized Early 📅

Use a planner, a calendar app, or even sticky notes to track assignments, projects, and events. Staying organized helps you avoid last-minute cramming and stress.

3. Create a Homework-Friendly Space 📚

Find a spot where you can focus—whether it’s your room, the library, or a quiet corner of the house. Keep it stocked with everything you need to crush your assignments.

4. Connect with Your Teachers

Teachers are here to help! Don’t be afraid to ask questions or visit them during office hours if you’re struggling. Building a good relationship with them can really pay off.

5. Make a Study Plan

Don’t wait until the night before a test to study. Break things down into smaller chunks and review a little each day—it’ll help you remember things better and keep stress levels down.

6. Stay Active and Rested 🏃‍♀️😴

Exercise, sleep, and good food are your secret weapons. Try to move a little every day, get at least 8 hours of sleep, and fuel your body with meals that keep you energized.

7. Get Involved in School Life

Join a club, play a sport, or go to school events. It’s a great way to meet people, try new things, and make your high school experience unforgettable.

8. Take Care of Your Mental Health ❤️

Feeling stressed? It’s normal! Talk to someone you trust, whether it’s a friend, teacher, or counselor. Taking care of your mental health is just as important as keeping up with schoolwork.

REMINDER

Early Dismissal from School

All students must check out with Ms. Espadas in the Attendance Office located in the Main Office before leaving school during the school day. Parents must also come in to check their students out, and they must present a valid ID that matches information in PowerSchool/HISD Connect. The main office will then request the student from class.

3:00 PM is the cut-off time to pick a student up early for the day. Parents arriving after 3:00 PM cannot have their student called down to the attendance office. If a student needs to be picked up early, they must be picked up before 3:00 PM.

When absent, students should turn in an excuse note (doctor’s, parent, etc…) to Ms. Espadas for filing. As a reminder, a minimum attendance requirement of 90% in each class is required to award course credit.
