Greetings,

My Name is Jasmine Davis-Thomas, and I am your new College Access Coordinator. Born and raised in Huntsville, Texas, I am proud to serve as a new Bellaire Cardinal. I started my educational career at Sam Houston State University and later earned my master's in education administration at Lamar University. Horace Mann, the father of public education, stated that "Education, then and beyond all others is a great equalizer." It is my belief that with this philosophy, I will ensure all students will achieve. It comes with great honor to serve Bellaire High School.

The College Center is available to all students. Students can book an appointment online here. Swing by any day during Cardinal Hour, too, no appointments are needed.

Attendance & Supervision During School Hours

We all want what’s best for our children, and a crucial aspect lies in their attendance and supervision during school hours. Here are a few reasons why this is so important:

1. Academic Success: Attending school regularly allows children to stay on top of their studies, engage with their teachers and peers, and participate actively in classroom discussions. This leads to better understanding of concepts and improved academic performance.

2. Social Interaction: School provides a safe and nurturing environment for students to interact with their peers. Regular attendance ensures that students can develop and strengthen important friendships, social skills, and emotional well-being.

3. Building Responsibility: By attending school punctually and regularly, students learn the value of being responsible and accountable. This prepares the for the future commitments and enables them to become confident individuals.

4. Safety and Security: Supervision during school hours is vital to ensuring the safety of our students. With proper monitoring, we can prevent unsupervised activities and provide a secure environment for learning and growth. To help us out with this we suggest to not drop off your student at Meyerland Plaza or any other place that is not Bellaire High School.

We kindly request your support in ensuring that your child arrives on time and attends school regularly. By doing so, you contribute significantly to their overall well-being and academic achievements. Thank you for being an integral part of our school community

Exchange with Italy

13 BHS students are now living the life of an Italian teenager, attending the Telesio High School in Cosenza, Italy, hosted by a local family. In the spring they will in their turn host their Italian friends, who will be enjoying the life of an American teenager in Houston. If your child is learning Italian at BHS, we will have an informational meeting in the second semester for the 2024-2025 exchange and we'll share the date on the newsletter.

Dress Code Reminders

Please take a moment and review the Bellaire Dress Code.

Library News

This week the library has been busy with check out- getting ready for a week off to spend with family and curling up with a good book. We had a variety of English classes coming into the library for instruction and check out. English IV classes came down to learn about embedding quotes in research papers, then got some individual work time with their teacher and Ms. Carpenter the resident research expert to help, and then had some time to explore the library and check out some books. The English I & II classes came down as they are getting ready for independent reading projects. The classes learned about the Library Incentives Website and how they can participate, and completed a library map to better know where everything is located in the library before they went to check out.

The library celebrated Diwali this week with a Diwali display and offered Diwali crafts for decoration during the weekly Make it Monday challenge! When showing classes the Bellaire HS Library Incentives page this week, we discovered that students logged 7.5k pages using our online tracker in October. Way to go Cardinals!

Recently, the library began giving out prizes for participating in the library incentives program for reading and library programs. Check out our top library users this week!
