HISD seeking community feedback in a series of town halls
Houston Independent School District will host nine community town halls at selected campuses to provide an overview of the progress being made on the district’s five-year strategic plan. The District V Community Town Hall is scheduled for October 12th at 6:00 pm at Las Americas Newcomer School.

Following last year’s Listen & Learn tour where community feedback was collected and guided the development of the new strategic plan, HISD leaders will speak with and hear from community members including parents, students, and educators.

Spanish interpretation will be available at most meetings, with the exception of October 3, 11, and 17. For a complete listing of Town Hall meetings, please click here.
Freshmen Parent Meeting - October 19
The 9th grade parent meeting has been moved to October 19th due to the Houston ISD Townhall Meeting with District V Trustee Sue Deigaard.

This meeting will focus on the transition to high school, getting involved and connected, and creating strong habits. We hope to see all of our freshman parents at this meeting. We will have you in and out in 60 minutes.

We are resharing our dress code again as a reminder about student dress while on campus. Please review our dress code.

  • Hats, bandanas, non-religious head coverings are not allowed to be worn on school grounds.
  • The length of shorts, skirts, and dresses should be no shorter than mid-thigh.
  • All clothing, including socks and accessories, must be free of profane, suggestive or provocative language and/or symbols, advertisement or promotion of alcohol, tobacco, weapons, or drug use, hate, and/or reference to or association with gang activity.
  • Pants and shorts must be worn at the waist. Clothing must be size appropriate.
  • Any clothing with holes above the knees should not have skin exposed.
  • Students must wear shoes. Sandals are permissible.
  • Leggings are permissible, but must not be sheer. The leggings should be paired with a shirt of appropriate length.
  • All clothing must cover the entire midriff area. Low-cut revealing tops are not allowed. Tank tops, camis, transparent clothing, and clothing designed to be worn as an undergarment are not permitted.
From the Bellaire Counseling Office:
Starting Friday, 9/16, Bellaire High School Counselors presented to students in the qualifying elective courses about the Pass/Fail Intent Form. The Pass/Fail Intent form is linked here. Emails to students who potentially qualify were also sent to the students’ email accounts.

The option to convert a numeric grade of 85 or higher to pass may only be applied after the initial fine art or PE credit has been completed. A numeric grade must be assigned for the first full fine arts and physical education credit.
The option to apply a numeric grade of 85 or higher to a “pass” applies only to:
  • Students enrolled in qualifying electives.
(Athletics, JROTC, Orchestra, Choir, Piano, Band, Guitar, Drill Team, Dance, Art, Cheer, Theater)
  • Students who have turned in the Pass/Fail Intent form by the end of Cycle 1 or the end of Cycle 5 (only for new spring courses added to a schedule after the first grading cycle) to the 2nd-floor Counselor’s office, 2723.
  • Courses taken in 9th-12th within HISD.
  • Up to 4 semesters for no more than 2 credits total.
  • CTE courses do not qualify.
  • For courses that are “passed,” students will still earn the credit, but no grade will be counted into the GPA.
  • This is no guarantee the GPA will raise. For example, if a student has below a 4.0, a student may not want to opt in.

-Why do this? We want to encourage students to stay in these programs. Please discuss this option with your student and turn in the form by the final day- Monday, October 3, 2022, to the 2nd-floor Counselor’s office, 2723, if your student wants to opt-in. If you have any questions, please contact your Counselor.
