From the Bellaire Counseling Office:
September is Self-Care Awareness Month. Linked here is a monthly calendar to check out ideas for gaining new coping skills and help reduce burn-out. Over the weekend, try to find at least one activity that brings you joy.

Remember, while on campus, your School Counselor and/or our Social Worker are here to help if students need someone to talk to. Parents and staff members can utilize the HISD SAF (Student Assistance Form) to refer a student: https://houstonisd.force.com/saf/s/ to the Counselors, Social Worker, or Wrap Around Specialists. Referrals will be routed to the correct person on campus to assist the student.

After hours, keep these numbers handy in case you need to talk to someone:
-Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 74741. Connect with a crisis Counselor for 24/7 free crisis support via text messaging.
-Texas Youth Helpline- Call or text- 1-800-989-6884. Free confidential help to youth in crisis who need help finding a Counselor, shelter, or someone to just talk to.

(Example- A student wants to drop HADV World Geography and add Academic World Geography.)
No level changes will occur in the first 3 weeks of school, with exceptions listed below. Once the level change window is open, changes can occur until the end of the first six weeks. Also, there will be no level changes the days teachers are verifying grades for the first six weeks. Students are still able to turn in the level change form during that time and it will be applied to the second six weeks, once grades are published.
 Exceptions:
1. The incorrect level was placed onto your schedule. (You did not request the level.)
2. You are a new student to BHS (any grade level) in the 2022-2023 school year.

 Important:
-All schedule changes must be submitted using the schedule change/level change form.
-Counselors will not grant a schedule change request through email.
-When making schedule changes, Counselors do attempt to cause the least disruption to the schedule as possible. However, that is not always possible. By submitting the schedule change or level change form, you are authorizing your counselor to change your entire schedule if necessary (including teacher changes) to accommodate your requests. Library News & Events
We wanted to update everyone on the library's progress as we move forward toward reopening the new Bellaire HS Library space and the successes of this week.
Currently, the Library Canvas page is available to all students- this Canvas course allows students to access digital resources for classroom and personal use. These resources range from Destiny Discover, our online catalog of physical books, to MackinVia our eBook and Audiobook database, and much more. We also provide programming for students online and in person which focuses on the whole student and social-emotional learning.
Ms. Carpenter has visited nearly all of the English IV classes to talk to them about Plagiarism and MLA format. These classes were fun where the students looked through various university and college Student Honor codes to determine each college's definition of plagiarism and cheating, what the normal punishment is, and what to expect before talking about how to avoid plagiarism with the MLA format.
Currently, the Bellaire HS library physical collection is being evaluated. The students have access to roughly 1/3 of the entire collection (totaling 11k books) thus far. Ms. Carpenter is unboxing, organizing and weeding the collection as she goes to get it ready for move-in day. She has also been working on book lists to update the collection with the upcoming Esser funds for the library based on the student results from the Library Interest Survey.
