Dear Mooney Family,

Next week is Catholic Schools Week, a time to celebrate the academic excellence, faith, and community that Catholic schools like ours provide. It’s a week filled with prayer, service, and school spirit, and it gives us the opportunity to reflect on the important role our school plays in forming not only academically strong students but also compassionate and responsible citizens. We have planned a variety of fun and meaningful activities to celebrate the gift of Catholic education at our school.

Cardinal Mooney’s Catholic Schools Week Schedule

Here are some of the exciting events and activities we have planned:

Monday, Jan. 27 – Service Day

In the true spirit of Catholic education, our students will be involved in a service project to help our local community. Each grade level will bring in hats (9th), gloves (10th), scarves (11th), or socks (12th) to be donated to the Rescue Mission. As an incentive, those who bring in an item are welcome to dress down in Cardinal Mooney attire for the day.

Tuesday, Jan. 28 – Mass Day

All families are welcome to join the entire Mooney Family for a special Catholic Schools Week Mass to celebrate faith, community, and the blessings of Catholic education! The Mass will be held at 11 a.m. in the Auditorium.

Wednesday, Jan. 29 – Student Appreciation Day

It’s all about the students today! Students are welcome to dress in their favorite Red and Gold attire and will be treated to a special lunchtime surprise!

Thursday, Jan. 30 – Distinguished Alumni

Students will attend a special Distinguished Alumni Ceremony And Prayer Service in the morning recognizing the careers and vocations that our successful alumni pursue after graduation from Cardinal Mooney.

Friday, Jan. 31 – Faculty Appreciation & School Spirit Day

As a special ode to our faculty, teachers will enjoy a dress-down and special luncheon. Students will enjoy faculty-focused activities and trivia throughout the day.

Warm Regards,

Dear Cardinal Mooney Family,

We are excited to share two special events that celebrate faith, academic excellence, and the rich traditions of our school community.

On Tuesday, Jan. 29, we will celebrate the Feast Day of St. Thomas Aquinas, patron saint of Catholic schools and scholars, with an all-school Mass. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to honor this great saint and reflect on his legacy of integrating faith and reason in pursuit of truth.

Following this, we invite you to join us on Thursday, Jan.30, for our Distinguished Alumni Ceremony and Prayer Service, a cherished tradition honoring alumni who have made a significant impact in their fields and communities. The Most Reverend David J. Bonnar, Bishop of Youngstown, will celebrate the ceremony, adding a special blessing to this event.

We congratulate the following exceptional individuals who will join our Distinguished Alumni:

William S. Begalla DDS: Class of 1974

Carol Fortine Ochoa: Class of 1976

Kenneth A. Centorame: Class of 1971

These events remind us of the strength and unity of our Mooney Family and the importance of fostering a spirit of gratitude for those who have paved the way before us. We look forward to celebrating with you and continuing to grow together in faith and community.

Blessings,

Lori Radinsky

Campus Minister

Dear Parents and Guardians of Cardinal Mooney,

As we continue to uphold the values and mission of Cardinal Mooney High School, we are introducing two new policies designed to reinforce the discipline pillar of our community. These changes, which take effect this semester, aim to create a more focused and respectful environment for learning and personal growth.

The first policy change is headphones are now forbidden during the entire school day. We did

allow them during the lunch period, but the students have abused this privilege and wear them throughout the school day. This is distracting the educational process and makes it hard to communicate with students who can’t hear directives from administrators, teachers, and staff. If a classroom teacher needs to use them for their class, they may give students permission during the class period, but they should not be seen at any other point during the day. If a student brings them to school, they should be locked in their locker.

If a student has headphones during the day, the headphones will be confiscated, given a

detention, and will only be returned to a parent or legal guardian. While we realize that it is an inconvenience for you to pick these up, we are hopeful that it sparks a conversation at home about what is expected behavior at school.

The second change will affect students who habitually skip detention. There is going to be a new lunch detention, run by the administration during a student’s lunch period. If a student is assessed lunch detention, they will have to eat their lunch in a separate room from the cafeteria. Our hope is that separating from their peers encourages students to conform their behaviors to the disciplinary procedures set forth, for their own personal growth.

As always, we encourage you to talk about these changes and expectations for a Cardinal

Mooney student. We look forward to continuing our journey of providing the best for our

students.
