Minnesota Permanent School Fund - Vote Yes this fall!
Did you know that if this passes, it would generate approximately $67,000 for the Annandale School District without raising taxes?
As students return to school this fall, families across Minnesota are preparing for a new year of learning and opportunity. Many Minnesotans may not realize that our state has supported public education through the Minnesota Permanent School Fund for more than 165 years. Today, the fund continues to generate revenue through timber sales, mining, land leases, and other natural resource activities. These revenues are invested by the State Board of Investment to provide ongoing financial support for Minnesota's public schools while preserving the fund for future generations.
This November, Minnesota voters will consider a proposed constitutional amendment related to the Permanent School Fund. If approved, the amendment would modernize how the existing fund is distributed by increasing the annual distribution percentage from 2–2.5% to 4.5%.
The official ballot question asks whether the Minnesota Constitution should be amended to increase the funding distributed to all school districts from the Permanent School Fund, effective July 1, 2027, without raising individual income or property taxes. Minnesota election law also provides that if a voter leaves this ballot question blank while voting in other races, it is counted as a "No" vote.
