28th Annual Sale

Social Studies Standards for the 4th grade includes standards regarding Economics. For many years, our 4th grade teachers have addressed these standards through their Business Adventure curriculum. Throughout the months of April and May, classes learn about wants vs. needs, supply and demand, as well as, goods and services. Class discussions are held regarding bartering, money, and the role it plays in our economy.

To deepen our students' knowledge on these topics, the grade level recently traveled to Lake Central Bank for a field trip. While there, students had a chance to view the vault, see tellers in action, and visit the boardroom to learn how banks function. Meeting the bank staff also introduced them to different financial careers and reinforced the real-world value of math and responsibility of money in everyday life.

Throughout the school year, students were able to earn “Cardinal Cash” for a variety of reasons. With this money, students have been taught how to deposit, withdraw, and invest. This money, combined with the money students will earn from their business during the 4th Grade Sale, will be used at the end-of-the-year auction which has fun items for the students.

To complete their goal of becoming entrepreneurs, some class time has been spent creating their own storefronts and students were assigned the homework of producing their products which will be sold at the upcoming sale. This hands-on activity helps build real-world life skills such as; resourcefulness, time management, and design thinking (creating, testing, and improving products).

This year marks the 28th Annual Sale Day at Annandale Elementary. It will be held Wednesday, May 28 at 1:30pm for ticket holders and doors will open at 1:45pm for the public. With the help of our community education and custodians, the gym is ready to host around 160 student storefronts and an average of 500 shoppers. The 4th grade sale continues to be a positive experience for everyone involved. Our students come into the sale as nervous entrepreneurs and leave as experienced store owners. The sale and auction have been made possible by numerous donations from many organizations, including annual donations from the Annandale PTO and Lions Club!

SUN Bucks - mailed by June 17

SUN Bucks is an income-based food support program that provides families with $120 per eligible school-aged child to buy groceries when school is out for the summer. Most eligible children are automatically enrolled. When children no longer receive free meals at school, their households might need extra help putting food on the table. The SUN Bucks program is designed to meet this seasonal need.

Annandale Middle School (AMS)

After learning about the history and cultural significance of piñatas, students designed their own by cutting shapes from cardboard, assembling them, and adding color with fringed tissue paper. Six graders in Ms. Tomes' Art class spent three weeks creating their colorful piñatas.

These behind-the-scenes photos show our 8th grade graphic arts students creating stop-motion animations. Students began by brainstorming a story or action sequence for their videos. Over the next two class periods, they built sets and props to bring their ideas to life. Then, during the following three classes, they captured hundreds of photographs to animate their stories!

The Anndroids Robotics team made school history by qualifying for State for the first time since the team's establishment in 2009! Teams advance to the MSHSL State Tournament based on points earned at the first two Regional events they attend. Successfully building, competing, and maintaining a robot is truly a team effort. This year's team was comprised of eight students; Lucas Winter (Build Team & Technician), Austin Truenow (Lead CAD & Co-Driver, and Captain), Elliot Wolff (Head Driver & Graphic Designer), Connor Smude (Team Outreach & Co-Builder), James Hayle (Safety and Build Team), Jacob Gades (Build Team), Matt Watson (Programmer/Coder), Varner Jones (Main Build and Electrical, Captain). They were led by their coach, Josh Dickinson, assistant coach Jennifer Jones, and mentor Scott Jones.

This year's robot, "Hard Times" was 114.7lbs just shy of the 115lb competition weight maximum. With its polyethylene bumpers the robot weighed in at 135lb! The robot's climbers could lift the robot six inches. In addition to competition points, robotics teams can earn a variety of awards. One award acknowledges the graphic design work on the robot. Hard Times' boasts a unique retro design of Pac-Man and ghosts from the classic 1980's arcade game.

The Anndroids have a lot to be proud of, they competed the best that they could against world level teams. This year, the Anndroids left the state competition with a 2-5 record and placed 32nd out of 35. They also won the Dunwoody College Outstanding Engineering and Design award which seeks to recognize that innovation comes from creative thinking, experimentation, failure and budgetary and/or engineering constraints. This award also came with a $500 check. Head Coach Dickinson was also named the 2025 Section 6 Coach of the Year by the Minnesota Robotics Coaches Association!

The robotics team would like to thank the many donors who believed in them and supported them in their passion as well as, this year's sponsors for helping make their dream a reality.

Congratulations Anndroids on a spectacular season!
