Kindergarten Round Up - Spread the Word!
Starting kindergarten can be an exciting but sometimes stressful experience for both students and parents. To help prepare families for their transition into Kindergarten, we have created a resource page with the steps families need to complete prior to attending school on the first day.
It is our goal to work in partnership with parents in our district to help make the best decision about their children's education. We want every child's first year at Annandale Elementary School to be positive and enjoyable. Please follow the five steps to enroll your child in Kindergarten at Annandale Elementary School.
If you have not yet reached a decision on school entrance, we recommend attending Kindergarten Roundup without your child. You will have the opportunity to gather information and ask questions without increasing your child's excitement or anxiety and also have the opportunity to hear about one of our Kindergarten classes called Transitional Kindergarten for our youngest students. This year's Kindergarten Round Up is Thursday, February 6 from 5-6:30PM at Annandale Elementary School.

Early Childhood Screening helps identify children who may benefit from district and community resources to assist in their personal development. Early Childhood Screening is required by MN law before a child can enter into Kindergarten and is preferred at ages 3 and 4, however it can be administered between the ages of 3 - 5. Early Childhood Screening may link you to learning opportunities, such as pre-kindergarten programming, Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), learning scholarships, Head Start, Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) and other needed health opportunities. We suggest that children have their screening done in the district that they reside in. Files can then be sent to Annandale Elementary School if they are going to be attending Kindergarten here. Please contact Dana Pearson at danapearson@isd876.org or call at 320.274.3058 ext. 4191 to get scheduled.

Elementary music students have been playing and creating with instruments in class with their music teacher, Mrs. Bakke. Kindergarten students explored ways to play rhythm sticks, 3rd graders are beginning to arrange a piece for their spring concert, and 5th grade students are drumming to the rhythm of cozy winter beverages. Here, student creativity shines!
National Children's Dental Health Month
In an effort to help establish good oral health practices in our youth, Wright County Public Health has invited our school to participate in a county-wide Brushing Competition for all 1st & 2nd grade students!
AES 1st and 2nd graders were given a brushing chart and encouraged to brush their teeth twice daily for two minutes and document their healthy habit at home. At the end of February, students will return their completed chart to their teacher and be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a prize!

Essential Five for Frosty Days
For optimal snow fun, please send the Essential 5 (hat, boots, coat, gloves, snow pants) with your child each day. The Essential 5 not only keep students warm but also keep their clothes dry and clean. Students without the Essential 5 will still be allowed outside on the paved areas. We ask that parents help reduce the lost and found inventory by labeling Essential 5 items with the student's initials, homeroom teacher, and school year.

Annandale Middle School (AMS)
On Tuesday, January 28, Annandale hosted the AMS Speech Meet. The event had 10 schools, about 110 students, and 20 judges in attendance! During the meet, students performed their speech in front of one judge and at least five other students in two rounds. Students are then critiqued on their delivery of their piece including: introduction; vocal control/clarity; facial expressions; eye contact with the audience; posture; and gestures and are given an overall grade. Students are given ribbons for an "A" rating.
The sixth grade season will end at the AHS February 6 meet. Our 7th and 8th grade students will continue into the varsity speech season with the high school students.

Experience a showcase of visual and performing arts talent! The art department would like to formally invite you to our third annual Night of The Arts on Monday, March 3 from 5-7PM at the Annandale Middle School.
We host this event in March to celebrate Youth Art Month. It is an open house style event. We have artwork on display from our art classes as well as personal artwork students have made outside of school. There are interactive art stations scattered around the building for people to participate in making art, and student performances, which include speech students, the jazz band, and solo or small group band/choir students.
This is a great opportunity for us to showcase the students who thrive in the arts! We hope you will join us!

Minnesota Student Survey (MSS) is a voluntary statewide youth survey that will be conducted on February 11 for students in grades 5, 8, 9, and 11. It is 100% anonymous. The survey is conducted to gain insights into the world of students and their experiences. School districts, communities, and counties use the data collected to determine programs and policies for youth. Families with students in the above grades received a letter from Jon Meinke (testing coordinator) in January with the survey details and an opt out form for those who do not want their child to participate.
