Greetings!
Dr. William Hambleton Completes Successful Term as President
New President Named From Within
After five years of committed service as President of La Salle Academy, Dr. William C. Hambleton announced in December that he has accepted an offer to serve as Head of School at School of the Holy Child in Rye, NY. Dr. Hambleton's new appointment will take effect on July 1, 2013.
Dr. Hambleton moves on from La Salle with a significant list of accomplishments. The most notable success of Hambleton's tenure is the move of the school from 2nd Street to 6th Street in the East Village; an endeavor that allowed for the leveraging of property to generate an additional income stream that stabilized the school's financial standing. Dr. Hambleton was recognized by the National Catholic Educational Association in 2011 with their Secondary Education Award for his work with the citation "for significant contributions to American Catholic education."
Dr. Hambleton came to La Salle Academy in 2008 after serving as Principal of the Madeleine Choir School in Salt Lake City, UT and prior to that as Principal of St. Dunstan School in San Francisco, CA. He holds a bachelors degree in Philosophy from the Pontifical College Josephinum, a masters degree in Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Vatican City, and a doctorate in Education Administration from the University of San Francisco, where he was a Graduate Merit Scholar.
Upon Dr. Hambleton's announcement, The Board of Trustees of La Salle Academy conducted a search and announced in March the appointment of Dr. William D. Macatee as the institution's next President, effective July 1, 2013. Dr. Macatee, for the past three years, has served as the Principal of La Salle Academy with a track record of raising academic standards and improving the quality of the La Salle experience for the young men enrolled.
Dr. Macatee came to La Salle Academy in 2010 with a depth of both teaching and administrative experience. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Saint Louis University and later went on to earn his masters in Secondary Education and a doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of San Francisco.
With over two dozen years of professional experience as a public and private school principal, Dr. Macatee offers a strong record of broad achievements in organizational change, program management, development and implementation of school-wide curricular/instructional systems, faculty and staff formation, professional development, student behavioral and counseling programs, as well as emergency and evacuation procedures. His expertise in organizational and educational psychology has improved the quality of education for thousands of children and young adults throughout his career.
The Board of Trustees has expressed their profound thanks to Dr. Hambleton and pledged their support to Dr. Macatee, as La Salle Academy moves toward the next successful chapter of its proud history.
