Dear Parents,

What an eventful week we have had! In just four short days we had our Tuesday all school mass, Ash Wednesday Liturgy and distribution of ashes, Our Junior High National Honor Society induction, Top Ten Luncheon, an eighth grade parent presentation on the “Exploitation of our Youth”, eighth grade parent meeting for our “Living History” trip and our Pre-registration Curriculum Night. What a great turn out

we had last night!

We have accepted 135 9 th graders for next fall. Our recruitment team has done a great job of spreading the great news about Cardinal Ritter. I am so appreciative for all their efforts.

As we enter this season of Lent our students are being reminded of its meaning and purpose. Pope Francis tells us that it is a time, “to return to the truth about ourselves which is that the Lord alone is God and we are the work of his hands.”

Next Thursday our students will have a Penance service thanks to our West Deanery pastors. What a great opportunity for our students to reflect on themselves and their relationship with our Lord.

Have a great weekend parents! Encourage your student to attend mass with you this weekend!

God Bless,

Mrs. Hoy

Prayer for Students

Lord our God, in your wisdom and love you surround
us with the mysteries of the universe.
Send your Spirit upon these students and fill them
with your wisdom and blessings.
Grant that they may devote themselves to their studies
and draw ever closer to you, the source of all knowledge.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

R/. Amen.

Every year the Church gives us the season of Lent as a time of conversion of heart, inviting us to turn toward the Lord and be reconciled to Him. To help us in this effort we rely upon three pillars of Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving.

By increasing our time in prayer we open ourselves more fully to a personal relationship with God, who loves us and desires to be known by us. Rather than piling up words in prayer we are called to listen, to meditate, to contemplate, and to love our Lord in prayer.

By fasting, both by observing days of fast and by making other sacrifices, we remind ourselves that "man does not live on bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God, and that for our Lord, his bread was to do the will of the one who sent him." Fasting also places us in solidarity with those who regularly do without and prompts us to increase our charity.

By almsgiving, or charitable giving, we put into practice the love and mercy that God has for each of us. By sharing of ourselves for the good of others we participate in that same self-emptying love that our Lord displayed upon the Cross.

Armed then, with prayer, fasting, and charity, let us continue our campaign of conversion and spiritual growth leading to the glory and the joy of our Lord's Resurrection at Easter.
