Dear Parents,
On Thursday, I shared the following information with our students:
“We have really gotten carried away with the rolling of the shorts and therefore the lengths of the skirts and shorts. As a Catholic school, we are grounded in the truth that the human body is God’s sacred creation. Therefore, we are called to dress modestly. Every student must respect their own bodies as a gift from God. Through our dress and appearance, we show that we know and respect this truth.
From this point forward, shorts must be unrolled for boys and girls. This includes not rolling your shorts and skirts from the waistline. If your skirt length is too short, you need to wear pants or shorts. If we cannot do this as a school, we will do what other schools (Catholic and public) have done and move to a pants only policy.”
As you can imagine, this decision is not a popular one. However, our dress code policy needed to be addressed.
In other school news, February is a busy month here at school. Included in this newsletter is the flyer for the activities for Black History Month that our Black Student Union members have been busy planning. This is complete with dress up days, a guest speaker, and even a Family Feud style competition. Today, our junior high students participated in our West Deanery Science Fair (see pictures included in here). Tonight our basketball game is one of the NBA’s host sites for a Knockout game during halftime of the varsity game. The winner will receive an NBA All-Star 24 logoed NBA basketball and two tickets to the NBA Crossover event. Come out and watch some great basketball and cheer on our knockout participants! We will also be celebrating our senior swimmers right before the varsity game!
In Christ’s Peace,
Kari Jost, Principal

Do you have a student who is up for a fresh challenge?
For those who are thinking about a career in communications, enjoy writing or are a visual storyteller, we have just the thing: the Boston University Summer Journalism Academy.
Hosted by Boston University College of Communication, the Summer Journalism Academy offers high school the experience to learn the core skills in news reporting, interviewing, and writing. Students will:
-
Learn from award-winning, working journalists
-
Report on actual events around Boston or (for learn-from-home students) their hometown
-
Improve their writing, interviewing, and research skills – applicable for any major and career
Students are challenged to step outside their comfort zone – and experience life as a working journalist. They learned how to interview strangers, ask probing questions, and assemble it in a concise story on deadline.
Our on-campus, residential program for three weeks offers students:
- Meet with Boston University's representative to discuss the college admissions process,
- Explore what it's like living in a residence hall and studying in a university environment, and
- Experience Boston museums, historical sites, and neighborhoods during free time.
Visual storytellers can apply for our three-week in-person photojournalism program where they will learn from former Boston Globe photographer, Stephen Haines.
Do you know students who would be a good fit for the Summer Journalism Academy? Please encourage them to learn more by visiting www.summerjournalism.org and apply soon, as spots are limited. We review applications on a rolling basis and provide a decision within two to three weeks.
If your student is accepted to our program and pay their registration fee in full by March 8, they will receive a special discount of $400 off the in-person tuition and $200 off tuition for our virtual program.
