Cardinal Ritter Theatre Department Presents Blithe Spirit

Cardinal Ritter Theatre Department is hard at work rehearsing via Zoom for their spring play, Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit, streaming on the NFHS Network on July 1st at 7pm.

Set in 1941 England, Blithe Spirit takes a humorous look at what can happen when living room spiritualism can go too far and become too comical! Playwright Noel Coward wrote the play to provide comfort to the British who lost loved ones during the London Blitz. Coward was convinced that there was an afterlife, and those “over there” were laughing at us “over here.”

The play concerns novelist Charles Condomine (played by Charles Rott), who invites an eccentric medium and clairvoyant, Senor Arcati (Ben Palmer), to his house to conduct a séance. Charles’ the intent is to make a mockery of spiritualism, but spiritualism makes a mockery of Charles when his late wife, Elvira (played by Katleyn Dottery) walks through the door…literally.

This might lead to a charming reconciliation was it not for Charles very-much-alive second wife, Ruth (played by Jordan Young), who loses her sense of humor about the situation.

Also in the mix-up is the overly energetic housemaid Edith (Abby Nagy) and the condescending, upper society friends, Dr. and Mrs. Bradman (Noah Mitchaner and Nicolle Loza).

Click on the link below on July 1st at 7pm to enjoy this Readers Theatre presentation as Blithe Spirit asks the question,

“who is out there…and are they all laughing at us?”
