August 7, 2020
Good afternoon.

It is exciting to have the chance to reconnect with the Bellaire HS community as we grow closer to the beginning of the 2020-21 school year.  Many of you have heard me say in the past how an element of our school mission is to prepare students for their next adventure.  Well, we are all - students, faculty, staff, parents, and the community - about to further embark on this new adventure together.  And while we had some successes with our emergency remote learning last spring, there is so much that our entire team has committed to learn since June and I am confident that we will be even more successful beginning September 8, 2020.

This is the first communication we have had since the HISD delivered its plan to delay school by two weeks and utilize a virtual setting for at least the first six weeks.  The purpose today is to offer some preliminary information.   Whereas our primary website (www.bellaire.org) remains your main source for all Bellaire news and events, I also want to introduce/reacquaint our families with the distance learning website we created.  This Bellaire-specific resource can be accessed here: www.distancelearningbhs.com.  Included on our site is a district-produced parent introductory course to virtual learning, as well as a few district-created resources detailing the Reopening Plan for Schools and the HISD Instructional Continuity plan.  Finally, I also ask that you save the date for a Virtual Town Hall meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, at 6:30pm.  Similar to last spring, this will be an opportunity for me to share those final bits of information while also fielding some of your questions.

I sincerely hope that each of you and those you love are both safe and healthy,  and I appreciate your continued support.

Enjoy the day,
Michael McDonough

Bellaire HS Virtual Schedule
Above you can find the class schedule that we will use while teaching in a virtual setting.  We believe this arrangement allows for a significant amount of time in a live session with the teacher while also providing flex sessions in the afternoon.

Remind Messaging App
All parents and students are encouraged to join their BHS Class Remind Group. Remind is a communication tool that will deliver important communications through text message or email. You can download Remind for IOS here and Android here. Once you download the app, simply text the class code you belong to above to the number 81010.

Remind can also be accessed by clicking on the links below to join a group.

In addition to the class codes above, students will have the opportunity to receive communication and correspond with their teachers through the Remind App.

New Student Drive-Thru Laptop Pick-Up
New students can sign up for an appointment to check-out a laptop here. To check-out a laptop, each student is required to present their HISD Student ID number.  If a student has not completed the registration process, they should not sign up for an appointment. Questions about registration can be submitted to the Registrar's office. Drive-thru laptop pick-up will be held in the circle drive on Maple Street.

**A system will be in place for new students to receive student ID's once we return to campus.

Returning Student Technical Support
Students returning to Bellaire that need help with a technical issue should complete a Request for Technical Support.

After trouble shooting your problem, you will have the opportunity to schedule an appointment. Please bring your device, charger and case to your appointment.
Student Schedules
HISD Connect is the new student information system for the Houston ISD and it will launch August 31st for students and parents. Student schedules and grades will be accessible through this portal. Finally, students will be able to see their preliminary course schedule beginning August 31st.

Update on Cardinal Camp!
Incoming 9th grade students can register for our virtual orientation here.
9th grader students will have the opportunity to meet their crew leaders for the year and get a jump start on what to expect once classes go live September 8th. Incoming 9th grade students will also receive their Cardinal Camp t-shirt and student planner when they pick-up their laptop. #Classof2024
