Prep Winter Sports Update
Believe it or not, we are already preparing for winter sports in the Middle School! In order to prepare our staff and begin our scheduling process, we need to have accurate numbers in each sport. Please take a second and pre-register your daughter for soccer and/or basketball. Both sports will begin in mid-November and will continue through the month of January. Practice days have not been determined yet. If you have any questions, please contact Associate Athletic Director Lanie Victory at [email protected].

Cross Country Sets Goals for Second Half of Season
The Sacred Heart cross country team entered their fourth race of the year at Ponchatoula High School on Saturday and has reached the halfway mark of their season. The weather was a perfect 53 degrees, and the course was dry and fast. A larger number of participants and teams offered the runners an opportunity to pace themselves off their competition. Even though the Cardinals were missing two top 7 runners, they still performed very well by stepping up to the challenge. Nine of the 10 runners ran a season best time. The team captured 4th place overall out of 17 teams and was only one point from 3rd place and finishing right behind St. Louis Catholic, a team in Sacred Heart’s division. The team plans to work on tightening their scoring gap between runners and continuing to follow the healthy guidelines and training regiment in order to put forth the best seven runners on the starting line for the next four races.

Volleyball Has Tough Tests Against Chapelle
On Tuesday, October 12th, the varsity volleyball team hosted Cohen College Prep and overwhelmed the young visiting team 25-4, 25-2, 25-1. The Cardinals dominated every part of the game to take the district win over the Hornets.
On Friday, the JV and varsity teams took the court again traveling to Archbishop Chapelle. For the JV, the first set was an exciting game that went back and forth with the score tied at least eight times. With the score tied at 23, Brooke Habetz ’23 went back to serve and closed out the match for the Cardinals 25-23. In the second set, the Chipmunks fought their way back to win the set, 25-17. In the deciding third set, the Chipmunks pulled away at the end to close out the match 15-12. It was a hard fought match with lots of good back and forth play. Leading the way offensively for the Cardinals were Kate Farris ’24 with six kills and two aces and Gigi Gibbens ’24 with six kills and two blocks. Brooke Habetz ’23 and Paige Ready ’23 did a nice job directing the offense from the setting position. On the defensive side, the Cardinals had big digs from Lucy Vaicius ’23, Lily Stone ’24, Ellie Bendich ’24 and Isabelle Moore ’23. Claire Vandebrook ’23 and Mary Elise Meyer ’24 had nice swings from the right side, and Allie Langhetée ’23 added some solid hits from the left.
The varsity team found themselves in a similar situation as Archbishop Chapelle had come ready to play. Although the Cardinals ultimately prevailed, 25-27, 25-19, 25-20, 19-25, 15-7, all five matches were spirited and intensely competitive. May Manning ’21 recorded 19 kills, and MC Mazzanti ’23 and Lindsey Magaw ’21 added 14 kills each. Cami Davis ’23 had five kills, and Riley Brennan ’21 chipped in four kills. Kate Ready ’23 came in strong in game five and gave the Cardinals the spark they needed with a five point serving run at the most critical time in the tie-breaker. Bailey Axelrad ’21 and Cat Bonura ’21 both finished with multiple digs. Elizabeth Maniscalco ’21 and Marian Graffagnini ’22 spread the offense around beautifully. It was a much needed hard-fought match up between two terrific teams. The Cardinals certainly had to earn every single point. On both sides of the ball, bodies were diving all over the place to keep the rallies going. It was a great fight and especially sweet for the Cardinals to end up on top.
Today, JV and varsity will travel to Pope John Paul and Thursday, they will take on the Country Day Cajuns in Metairie.
