Former LSU Gymnast McKenna Kelly on Campus Today!
|
McKenna Kelley is a former two-time LSU All-American, All-SEC performer, and the 2017 SEC Floor Exercise Champion as a Tiger gymnast. Her success wasn't just as an athlete as she was also a four-time All-SEC Academic Honor Roll selection.
She graduated in May of 2019 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology and has since begun her career as a motivational speaker. If you are unfamiliar with her career/story, she tore her Achilles leading her to miss her junior season.
"This was easily the best year of my life!" Though she couldn’t compete, she leaned on her faith and learned far more valuable lessons about life, herself and gymnastics!
McKenna is the daughter of Shannon Kelly, a former quarterback of the Texas Longhorns, and Mary Lou Retton, a gold medalist for the USA in the 1984 Summer Olympic Games. She also has three sisters, Shayla, Skyla, and Emma.
She started, “Write Your Story,” in hopes of inspiring YOU, that no matter what obstacle life throws at you, you have the power to WRITE YOUR STORY. This is what she learned through her own injury, and her heart is set on fire to share her story to help gymnasts, athletes, and others to have this perspective as well!
Thank you Booster Club for sponsoring this event!

Swimming Earns District Runner-up Accolades
Last Wednesday, the Cardinal swimmers competed in their district meet at UNO. This was their first time swimming in the East District. The Cardinals did very well and were able to bring back a District Runner-Up title. They beat five other teams for the victory and just missed the first place title by a few points. They also celebrated their lone senior swimmer, Shannon Plough, for Senior Night. Congratulations to all swimmers and a special congratulations to Shannon for her many years of hard work and perseverance she has brought to her team and her school.
The Sacred Heart swimmers had another huge accomplishment at this meet. Everyone was able to swim a personal best time! Great work ladies!

Cross Country Excels on a Fast Course and Perfect Weather Conditions
On Saturday, the varsity cross country team ran in Hammond at St. Thomas Aquinas. It was worth their early morning ride to run on a fast course in perfect weather conditions.
Caroline Nusloch ’21 and
Olivia Gaines ’20 worked together as they ran stride for stride for the first two miles of the race. The rest of the team paced themselves well and moved up numerous places to put themselves in position to finish as strong as possible.
Cali Jane Luetkemeier ’23,
Emily LeBlanc ’21,
Audrey Lemann ’21,
Andrea Bohorquez ’20, and
Mariella Congeni ’23 worked their way around the course feeding off of each other while passing runners as a group of four strong.
Ellie Sundell ’20 and
Libby Talbot ’23 also ran the majority of the course working together. Libby was running her first three mile race of her career and did quite well. Overall, each of the runners did very well as more personal best and season best were obtained. The team finished second overall and only nine points from first place. That was a great accomplishment considering they were missing two of the top runners on the team. The runners are coming along in their training and are potentially setting up a tough decision for the coaches to determine which seven runners will earn their chance of representing their school at the State Championship on November 19.
