Soccer Advances to the Regional Round
Last Friday, the Cardinals stepped onto PanAm Field to begin their playoff journey against St. Frederic High School. The girls began with a good warmup and had the entire team walk up to the field for the team introduction prior to the beginning of the game.
The game started at a medium pace, but energetic with players keeping a good possession of the ball. Right at the beginning of the first half,
Carolina Mehaffie ’24 scored a nice goal, getting the Cardinals on the scoreboard at an early stage of the game. Taking advantage of the vibe of the game Carolina quickly was able to put another goal.
Mia Dreiling ’24 was able to go in the first half to give
Gabby Thibodaux ’21 a break, and she did not waste any time, as she soon put a goal in with her special left foot from a nice cross from
Martha Hammet ’23. The Cardinals were up 3-0 at halftime.
Some lineup changes were made for the second half.
Martha Hammet ’23 was able to put a goal in and continue her routine of scoring each game.
Abbey Magruder ’23 put her first goal of the season in the net, from a cross from
Cali Jane Luetkemeier ’23 making the score 5-0 in favor of the Cardinals. Sacred Heart had a great first playoff game appearance and is currently training hard to face 4th ranked Christ Episcopal. This is a re-match from the last regular season game for the round of sixteen. Please come out to support the soccer team in Covington this evening at 6 p.m.
