Track & Field Continues to Impress
With the conclusion of the St. Martin’s Meet on Saturday, numerous PR’s (personal records) were either set or broken and along the way, a new school record was also set. Taylor Robert ’25 and Bria Egana ’25 were first to represent the team in the javelin. This was their first time doing so in a meet, and they both stepped up and performed very well, with only 1 ft. 4 inches separating the two of them. They both achieved their best throws on the last of four attempts, Taylor 63’ 6" in 5th and Bria 62’ 2" in 6th, both scoring the first points for the team of the day. Next, the long jump, high jump and shot put all went on simultaneously. In the long jump, the duo of 1st place Lulu Real ’23 (15’ 1") & 2nd place Ekua Commey ’22 (14’ 8") (PR), scored 18 points combined. Mykhala Coleman ’21 (32’ 9") and Allie Langhetee ’23 (24’ 1") (PR) tossed their shot puts to 1st & 5th place overall, while their teammates in the high jump competed just feet away. Elaine Marie Ehrensing ’24 - 1st (4’ 8"), Olivia Boyd ’22 - 3rd (4’ 6") and Bria Egana ’25 (4’ 2") (PR) worked together as a team helping and cheering for each other as the competition went on from the starting height to the last attempt. The final two field events also took place at the same time at opposite ends of the complex with Aleyea Mogilles ’23 in the triple jump leaping to a 2nd place with a measurement of 29’ 1" and a trio of athletes some 150 yards away competing in the Discus. Mykhala Coleman ’21 spun herself and launched a school record breaking throw of 103’ 10" (1st) while her teammates Lilly Moreau ’21 went 93’ 10" (PR) for 2nd place and Allie Langhetee ’23 finished 4th - 66’ 1" (PR).

After a very short break in the action, the running events began with two teams in the 4 x 200 Meter Relay running away from the competition and finishing 1st & 2nd place. The teams consisted of Vivian Real ’26, Lulu Real ’23, Aaliyah Oro ’24 and Olivia Boyd ’22 (1:55.50) and Aleyea Mogilles ’23, Ekua Commey ’22, Emery Nolan ’25 and Charlotte Bush ’25 (2:00.37). After that wonderful display of determination, the 1600 meters (1 mile) was next up. This race had three first timers competing in an actual meet on the varsity level. Taylor Robert ’25, Eliza Capella ’24 and Libby Talbot ’23 all ran their races according to the plan and worked together to achieve their personal best times. Taylor and Eliza paced off of each other over the four lap race and hit their splits as each 200 meters of the race were covered. With just 150 meters left in the race, they ran stride for stride to the last 75 meters and gave it their all over that last stretch of track. They both earned new personal records with Taylor Robert in 6:35 and Eliza Capella in 6:37. Libby Talbot ’23 - 7:20 showed true grit as it was revealed later that she had ripped a blister on her toe that caused her tremendous pain. Her fight through this inspired others to give their all. Next up were the sprint events with Emily LeBlanc ’21 in the 100 M Hurdles in 18.81 for 2nd place over 10 hurdles and then a grouping of six runners in the 100 Meter Dash. The following sprinters performed well and earned valuable points for the team. In the JV race, Grace Trelo ’25 (3rd) 14.73, Carolina Khatib ’25 (5th) 14.96 and Evelyn Monsted ’25 - 15.26 all showed fight over the distance. The varsity race had sisters Lulu Real ’23 and Vivian Real ’26 running against the clock and showing exactly what the future has in store for the two of them. Lulu - 14.10 and Vivian - 14.40 earned a 3rd and 5th place finish while Aleyea Mogilles ’23 pushed herself to a 7th place finish in 15.00. Next up was the 800 meters, where Olivia Boyd ’22 finished in 2nd - 2:40 , and Eliza Capella ’24 - 2:59 (PR) and Claire Parrish ’25 - 3:04 (PR) both earned personal records. The 400 meter dash had Sarah McKinney ’24 finish first for the team as she completed 1 lap in 1:09.60 (PR). Piper Rubin ’25 - 1:14.02, McLaine Schlosser ’26 - 1:14.92 and Claire Parrish ’25 - 1:15.56 all pushed themselves in the race that is sometimes called the hardest of all running events. Emily LeBlanc ’21 ran 54.58 for the 300 M hurdles and showed her toughness as she ran all alone, beating all other hurdlers by at least 6 seconds. The 200 meter dash is a race that is a very long sprint and Charlotte Bush ’25 was running it for the very first time in her young varsity career. When the starter’s gun fired, she, along with teammates Aaliyah Oro ’24 and Juliet Boyd ’24, all pushed hard at the start and ran the first 100 meters on the turn and pumped their arms and legs down the straightaway to the finish line. Charlotte finished 2nd in 29.99 and Aaliyah was 3rd in 30.16 while Juliet in 32.01 grabbed 5th place. The JV version featured the same trio from the 100 meter race and Grace Trelo - 30.65, Carolina Khatib -30.70 and Evelyn Monsted - 34.94 all gained valuable experience from this adventure. The 3200 meter had Caroline Nusloch ’21 - 13:50 taking home a 5th place finish. The last event was the 4 x 400 meter relay and the athletes that participated in this final event earned their stripes during this meet. The two teams ran their hearts out and showed that they could do what some of them thought they could not handle. Emily LeBlanc ’21, Charlotte Bush ’25, Emery Nolan ’25 and Vivian Real ’26 in 4:48 finished 4th and McLaine Schlosser ’26, Piper Rubin ’25, Clarie Parrish ’25 and Eliza Capella ’24 in 5:20 finished 5th.
Those final points of the meet added with all of the others over the entirety of the day helped keep our total growing and in the end, the Cardinals captured the overall 1st place trophy.

Varsity Tennis Team Remains Undefeated
Last week, the varsity tennis team matched up against St. Martin’s at Green Acres for their third match of the regular season. Two singles players, Sofia Rodriguez ʼ23 and Olivia Boyd ʼ22 had no trouble winning both singles lines in dominant fashion. Our line one doubles team of May Manning ʼ21 and Elizabeth Maniscalco ʼ21 showed their champion spirit and natural athleticism and won their match against St. Martin’s best line by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Maria English ʼ24 and her partner Emmeline Singer ʼ26 took care of business, again, winning their line 6-1, 6-1. Newcomer to the team and fresh off of basketball season, Mallory Medo ʼ23 played doubles with Virginia Edrington ʼ21. They fought through two sets and split, sending them into a third set tie breaker. The doubles team who had never played a match together won the tie breaker and it was another clean sweep for the Cardinals. The tennis team’s record is 3-0 going into the heart of the season with several important matches coming up. These Cardinals truly have their eyes on the prize. Let’s go!

Last week, the softball team kicked off their season with a game against St. Martin’s at The Fly. The Cardinals came out swinging the bats and quickly took the game from the Saints with a score of 10-0. Renee Charles ’26 pitched a no-hitter in her debut for the Cardinals and added a run to the board with her home run. Allie Gernard ’28 also tallied a home run while Ellie Habetz ’26 had a solid performance as catcher. Eleanor Erazo-Pierson ’26 did an excellent job at first base getting many outs to help lead the team to victory. Way to go, Cardinals!
