Prep Track
The middle school track team kicked off their season with a fun home meet that consisted of field events, hurdles, the 800-meter, and mile. They were joined for some friendly competition by girls from both Holy Name of Jesus and McGehee.
René Charles ’26 took the top spot in the discus with a throw of 59’5’’. Callie Langhetee ’26 was not far behind with a throw of 56’9’’. Ellie Habetz ’26 took third place with a throw of 48’4’’.
Meanwhile, the long jump pit was on fire. The farthest jump of all of middle school was by Daniella Guarnieri ’28 who soared through the air with a jump of 14’5’’. Eleanor Erazo Pierson ’26 jumped 13’9’’, and Emily Guider ’26 jumped 13’5’’. There were many to follow with the following measurements.

On the back straight-away, the 50m hurdle races proved to be exciting. So exciting, that many of the girls raced twice. Kai Jones ’25 finished in the top spot with a time of 10.0 seconds, and Maddie Do ’25 was a fraction behind with 10.53.
Our other top finishers were Reagan Hayes ’26 and Abby Truxillo ’26 with times of 10.57, and Jane Farnsworth ’25 with a time of 11.22.

Our javelin throwers made their marks with the following very impressive throws.
Reagan Hayes ’26 was our top thrower in middle school with a distance of 57’3’’. Ellie Habetz ’26 threw 55’9’’, and René Charles ’26 threw 52’4’’. Therese Hymel ’28 was our top 5th/6th thrower with a distance of 37’2’’. Marguerite Touzet ’27 was second behind her with a throw of 34’11’’, and Daniella Guarnieri ’28 with a throw of 33’2’’.

As always, the mile race was very exciting. We have a crew of incredible milers in middle school, and they prove that each week when they tackle the challenging workouts that they are given. Lily Varisco ’27 took the lead early on, and held first place even down to the line when she was chased by Courtney Habetz ’28. They used each other as motivation throughout the race. Avery Alig ’26 has been working incredibly hard and had a major goal to PR this week, and she did!

Due to the large numbers of participants, we had to have two heats of the 800. Each were stacked with talent. Colette English ’27 was the overall winner with a time of 3:23.

Congratulations ladies! It was fun to see all of our girls cheering for each other from the infield. This Thursday, we will have another fun relay meet here at ASH on the Benson Track at 4:00. Our girls will get some relay practice in before our first official meet at St. Martin’s Episcopal School this Saturday, March 27th. Field events begin at 8:45 and running events begin at 10:45. Cost of admission is $5, and anyone that accesses the camp areas of a team, warm-up, or competition areas, must wear a mask.
