Soccer 

The Cardinals soccer team opened the playoffs last week with a couple of decisive victories.

In the first round, they welcomed West Feliciana to City Park. In what proved to be a lopsided contest, they took the lead early and never looked back. The final score was 8-0. Vivian R. ’26 paced the team with a hat trick, and Mary S. ’24 added 2 of her own. Other individual goals were scored by Colette E. ’27, Skylar B. ’27, and Charlotte B. ’25.

The second round was played against an improved South Beauregard squad. Vivian R. ’26 scored the first goal to open things up. Charlotte B. ’25 then added 2 more goals to her growing season total. Skylar B. ’27 then closed out the scoring. Final score, Cardinals 4, Lady Golden Knights 1. The quarter finals are up next!

Basketball 

On Friday, the Cardinal basketball team defeated East Jefferson High School 53-31. Libby F. ’26 led the team in scoring with a game high 22 points and snatched 8 rebounds. Leah V. ’26 was the second leading scorer with 19 points. Lily V. ’27 led the team in rebounding with 9 and turned in 4 points while Bria E. ’25 chipped in 4 points and 5 rebounds. 

The Cardinals then turned their attention to a tough district opponent in Haynes Academy. The team got off to a slow start being down 11-1 early in the 1st Quarter and double digits in the 2nd Quarter. The 3rd Quarter is where the Cardinals found their footing cutting into the Yellow Jackets lead by creating some turnovers. In the 4th Quarter the Cardinals took the lead and never relinquished it again defeating Haynes 41-32. Libby F. ’26 led the Cardinals in scoring with 16 points while Leah V. ’26 was the 2nd leading scorer with 12 and she was the team’s leading rebounder with 8. Bria E. ’25 turned in 9 points and 6 rebounds while Taylor R. ’25 chipped in 3 points and 6 rebounds as well.

Lastly the Cardinals took on their final district opponent of the season Ursuline Academy and defeated them 47-16. This win would seal the District 9-3A title for the team making it two consecutive years of district champs for the Cardinals. Leah V. ’26 led the Cardinals in scoring with 20 points. Libby F. ’26 turned in 12 points while Bria E. ’25 had 6 points and Rosie V. ’28 chipped in 4 points. The Cardinals now await for the LHSAA Playoff brackets to be released on Monday. 

Indoor Track 



The Cardinal Indoor Track Team "warmed" up on the outdoor track in the rain to get themselves ready for their upcoming events inside the Carl Maddox Field House at the Last Chance Qualifier for the State Meet this past Saturday. ALL of the athletes that were able to participate performed very nicely in their events. JANE F. '26 ran the 60 Meter Hurdles in a new personal best and potentially qualified. MEREDITH C. '26 competed in the 60 Meter race. LEAH V. '26, REESE T. '26, MOLLY O. '28 & COURTNEY H. '28, competed in the 4x 800 race finishing 9th and earned a spot in the State Meet.
