The Sacred Heart Cross Country team was very excited to receive their cross country yard signs and magnets presented by our ASH Athletics Booster Club! 

Varsity Volleyball Opener

The Varsity Volleyball Team kicked off the 2022 season with a convincing victory over St Martin’s Episcopal School. The offense was led by setter Brooke Habetz ’23 with 27 assists. Attacking at the net were hitters MC Mazzanti ’23 (14 kills) and Gigi Gibbens ’24 (13 kills). Leading our defense on serve receive and digs were Katherine Hale ’23 (12 digs), Lucy Vacius ’23 (7 digs), and Brooke Habetz ’23, (6 digs). The team had seven aces during the match. The next opponent is Division III powerhouse, Archbishop Hannan High School, this afternoon. On Saturday, the team will travel to the Liberty Tournament in Baton Rouge. Go Cardinals!

JV Volleyball Opener 

On Monday 8-29-22, The ASH JV volleyball team opened their season against a very good Dominican HS squad.

The first set opened with Dominican scoring 3 out of their first 4 points via serves hitting the net and dribbling over. That set the stage for what followed. Behind some tough serving and some shaky passing from the JV the score ballooned and the Cardinals lost the first set 25-9.

On the plus side for the ASH JV in that set, Natalia Mehaffie’25 had 2 huge stuff blocks, Claire Moriarty’25 tossed up some nice sets, and Piper Rubin ’25 and Callie Parenton’25 served well.

In the second set Ellie Habetz’26 had a nice serving run of 4 straight points. Riley Ralston’26 added a block and an ace. Sally Irwin’26 and Sofia Urdhain’26 had to scramble a bit to get to some of the passes as the DHS serving continued to cause problems with the Cardinal serve receive. Even so they managed to set some nice balls for their hitters.

In the end the JV fell in the second set 25-14 as DHS proved to be a formidable opponent.

Matching up against DHS was a great learning experience. The ASH JV will take this experience and use it to get better.

Next up for the Cardinals is a trip to Covington on Wednesday, 8-31-22 to play Archbishop Hannan.

ASH Swimming 

It’s exciting to have the Sacred Heart Swim Team back into the pool. Our roster is complete and the girls have successfully completed the first two weeks of practice. The swimmers are focused and actively working towards a successful season.

Mater Campus and Rosary Campus Pick Up 

Parents, please wait outside the gates for your daughter for dismissal. For Mater Campus pickup, the girls will exit from the doors on General Pershing. Rosary Campus pick up, the girls will exit from Rosary gym gates onto Carondelet. If you happen to be running late for pickup the girls will be escorted to Rosary Hall for MASH.
