Basketball

This past week the Cardinals competed in two games due to one game coming from a forfeit. On Monday, the team headed out to New Orleans East to take on their first district opponent of the season Sarah T Reed defeating them 54-10. Leah Varisco ’26 led the Cardinals in scoring with 17 points. The Cardinals JV then took the court on Wednesday against Mt. Carmel’s JV. Mt. Carmel came in and was able to get some turnovers causing the Cardinals to drop the contest 15-13. The team then turned their attention to Pope John Paul. The Cardinals had plenty of opportunities to get a win against the Jaguars but couldn’t manage to get anything going offensively ultimately losing the contest 31-26. Leah Varisco ’26 led the team in scoring with 9 while Taylor Robert ’25 tallied in 6 points for the game. The Cardinals will look to get back on track as they take on John F. Kennedy and Country Day this week.

Soccer

The Cardinal soccer program entered a busy week with multiple players in and out of the lineup due to injury and the flu. They started out with a tough match against Episcopal in Baton Rouge on Tuesday. In a match that featured multiple momentum swings, goals were scored by Carolina Mehaffie ’23, Charlotte Bush ’24, Vivian Real ’26. The short handed cardinals finished the match with a disappointing 3-3 draw.

Next up a couple days later was Dominican and it proved to be a tough match as always. Goalkeeper Daisy Mooney ’23, made multiple incredible saves to keep the match square for the first 60 minutes. Unfortunately, Dominican was finally able to slide one in to take the lead. After battling back and having a couple opportunities to tie it up in the final 20 minutes, the match would end 1-0.

Next up was a district game against Landry Walker that ended in a 8-0 mercy rule victory just after halftime.

The junior varsity team was also in action with games against Dominican and Newman. Both matches were well played games that ended in 1-1 draws.
