Golf

The Academy of the Sacred Heart golf team brought home a State Runner-Up trophy at the 2023 LHSAA Division I Golf State Championship! It was a total team effort put forth by team members Jade Neves '28, Grace Gunn '27 and Maddie Rudolph '26 who all played fantastic golf for two days. This was the first time in 3 years that the Sacred Heart Golf Team has competed at the State Championships. The tournament consisted of two 18 hole rounds of golf. After day one, the Cardinals found themselves in 2nd place overall by 1 shot with 4 other teams following closely behind. We talked about going out on day two and making every shot count and not to worry about the score until the end of the round. The girls played their hearts out and just kept grinding on every hole. At the end of the day, we found ourselves tied for 2nd with Northshore and we both were crowned State Runner-Ups. Grace Gunn '27 had the team's second lowest score after day one and Maddie Rudolph '26 shot the second lowest score after day two . Grace and Maddie made some crucial pars to keep the team in the hunt. These two young golfers played their hearts out and just kept fighting on every hole. Jade Neves '28 played exceptional golf over 36 holes with a 4 over par for a total of 152 to win the Individual State Medalist Title and to lead her team to the State Runner-Up title. Jade Neves '28 shot an 1 over par after day 1 to find herself in first place overall. This is a huge achievement for a young seventh grader and put pressure on her for the second round. Jade played very composed and fought off the next competitor on every hole. She had a 1 shot lead with 4 holes to go. Jade hit a beautiful approach shot on hole number 14 to card a birdie on the hole and increase the lead by two shots. On hole 18, she hit a long drive right down the fairway then hit her approach shot about 15ft from the hole. Her competitor hit a very nice approach shot about 8ft from the hole that left her with an eagle putt to tie the competition. Jade's opponent made an eagle putt to tie her for the overall lead and that left Jade an eagle and birdie attempt to win the overall individual title. Jade hit her eagle putt about 3 ft from the hole then drained her birdie putt to shoot an overall score of 3 over par which crowned her the Individual State Champion for Division 1. She is the youngest State Champion in school history in the sport of Golf. The future looks bright for this young golf team and I am so exceptionally proud of them. Go Cardinals!

Track and Field

The 2023 Track & Field season for the Academy of the Sacred Heart of New Orleans concluded with an outstanding showing at the 3-A State Championships this past Saturday at the L.S.U. Bernie Moore Stadium. All of the participants put forth the best they had on this day and proved to themselves that they had what it takes to compete with some of the best in their events.  The team was also very well represented by our alternates and others that used their voices to encourage their teammates in the jumping and throwing events. Also the encouragement continued in the hurdles and during each lap around the track for the running events.  Their presence was appreciated as was the applause of the crowd for their accomplishments.  It was a great display of what a total team effort looks like and what it can do when everyone works together. ❤️❤️
