Cardinals Corner | Edition # 8 | October 15, 2020

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL

Dear Families,

First, I want to express my sincere gratitude to all the individuals who signed up for the MD Anderson Spooktacular Halloween Blood Drive on October 28 in honor of Renee Blaize. With 80 units of blood set to be donated, I am very happy the St. Rose of Lima family can support one of our own this way.

Second, how about those Astros? In celebration of our hometown team and how far they have come, students are welcome to wear their favorite Astro's shirt (or Astro colored - top) or your own baseball/softball jersey with uniform bottoms tomorrow, October 16, 2020.

Third, another THANK YOU to all those who have supported our Spooktacular Spirit Week thus far. Your generous donation has raised our Spooktacular Spirits, and we are grateful to be able provide a celebration for our students.

If you are still interesting in donating to support arts & crafts, MS activities, Halloween Bingo, Parties by Pod, or decorations, please let us know! Your support will make students say, “What Halloween Festival?”

We are busy in the office, but I wanted to remind you I am always available by phone and email in the event of any questions. For our New Cardinals Families (2020-21), I would like to personally extend an invitation to New Parent Coffee with the Principal event on October 27, 2020 on the patio at the Bell Tower on 34th Street at 9 AM. I hope I will be able to meet you personally at this time. This is an outside event, but mask are requested.

THANK YOU for being a part of our Cardinal Family,

Go 'Stros!

WINTER UNIFORM UPDATE

Please be reminded of student dress code policy for cooler weather. You can find the dress code here!

A few things to note:
  • Leggings are not permitted during cooler months, but navy and white tights of any thickness and brand are permitted.
  • PK3 students are permitted to wear any outerwear.
  • A white long sleeve shirt is permitted under uniform tops on cooler days.

Addendum: There is no lost and found this year. Please be sure to label your child's clothing items (especially those blue sweaters/ fleeces) with their names (not initials). Labeled items are returned to their homes much more easily! Thank you for your cooperation.
A MESSAGE FROM COUNSELOR BROWNLEE

As we continue to navigate the changes at home, school, and work due to COVID-19, it is important to remember that children continue to look to adults for guidance on how to react to stressful events.  In response to this rising issue, Counselor Brownlee has drafted a few points on talking to your children about the global pandemic.

SCENES FROM CAMPUS TODAY

Today in Middle School, students were visited by several faculty from St. Pius X High School. They were able to dialogue about SPX and its programs.

SPX staff emphasized to our students the importance of finding the right fit - and talking to everybody. Citing SRL Alumni, extensive access to teachers and alternate resources, they encouraged family, teamwork, and character development - and the importance of choosing a high school that fits them and their goals.

Thank you SPX for encouraging our students no matter where they land!
