A LETTER FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL

Dear Families,

I always love giving you a glimpse into our classrooms.

In first grade this morning, students followed the butterfly life cycle, incorporating mathematics (focus on symmetry), science ( life cycle study), art (drawing), technology (viewing a time lapse of chrysalis), and engineering (creation of life cycle spinners). In Yearbook class, older students began creating "digital stories" with use of their kindles through Animoto, a cloud-based video creation program that produces video from photos, video clips, and music into video slideshows and customized web-based presentations. Finally, Middle School speech and art students are competing in the St. John XXIII Fine Arts Frenzy this Saturday, bringing St. Rose's approach to speech, art, and religion to a diocese wide stage.

Why is this important? St. Rose has a long standing tradition of complimenting the education of the whole child - pre-kindergarten through middle school. We constantly seek to enhance and enrich our classes, in order to build upon the foundation of the curriculum of the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston.

S.T.R.E.A.M. is a framework of instruction that enhances our commitment to delivering a rigorous, engaging academic programs that celebrates, develops, and meets the needs of our learners, which St. Rose of Lima School has been focused on since 1947.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the curriculum or any of the exciting approaches we are involved in daily. My door is always open.

Yours in service,
Bernadette Drabek, M.Ed.
