A LETTER FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL
“I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."
Dear Families,
As Imelda dropped 43 inches of rain across Southeast Texas last week, our Homecoming Game was washed out. Nevertheless, we remained dry and safe here at school, though a regular day certainly turned into a very eventful end of the week.
As the last Cardinal headed home around 8 PM last Thursday, we were happy to go home, yet happier still that each and every student was safe. Our community is stronger than a storm, and we had the security of knowing God is with us always.
I stand by my earlier statement that nothing dampens that Cardinal Spirit, and we are very blessed to revel in the calm after the storm. At the end of the day, we are all simply doing our job by living our motto "Go now, and live the day and do what we can, for the Glory of God" .
We look forward to our Homecoming Game rescheduled for October 4th, and welcoming our players back to campus after the game to celebrate in the newly opened Pumpkin Patch!
Yours in Service,
Bernadette L. Drabek, M Ed.
Class of 1975

A LETTER FROM MIDDLE SCHOOL
"Homecoming week was still a success even though the weather tried to ruin our Cardinal spirit. The dance was amazing with all of the glow sticks and black lights. Thanks to Mrs. Lacey-Garcia, our homecoming mums were amazing! We wanted to thank everyone who designed this homecoming. Thank you to Mrs. Case since you let us have the dance in the library (
Club SRL
). We were excited to have Coach V be our DJ. Thank you Mr. Miller and Mrs. Lynch for being awesome chaperones and for making this dance memorable. The pictures will stay with us for a very, very long time. The glow sticks from Mrs. Walcik added fun and color to the dance. We are very grateful to the BETA club for planning and organizing this dance. The sheer amount you guys did was spectacular! We were blessed by the amount of food and drinks given to us by our loving parents. We owe our final thanks to Mrs. Drabek and Mrs. Tellier for letting us have the great week we had and for keeping our spirits up during the weather. Without you, we would not have had such a great homecoming. "
Thank you for everything,
Middle School

DID YOU KNOW?
A message from the School Advisory Committee
Did you know that St. Rose of Lima School is home to an Outdoor Classroom? You may have walked by it, you may have stood near it, but more than likely you have not seen this special area in use by our students nor have you heard of the activities that take place there. Just inside the wave gate, under the pavilion, our PK to 5
th
Grade students spend time on a daily basis in their Outdoor Classroom. They listen to stories, journal, create art, learn about nature and various other things all in a covered space while listening to the birds sing and watching the Texas weather change from week to week. There are many benefits to learning in an outdoor classroom. Teaching outdoors increases students’ interest in the subject, motivates them to learn, and helps them retain the information longer. It also promotes better behavior. Studies show that once students return to their indoor classroom from the outdoor classroom, they are more attentive and focused.
Take a minute to ask your student about his/her outdoor learning and what it means to them. You may be surprised by all the amazing things that go on in this classroom few know exists!
