Cardinals Corner | Edition # 7 | October 8, 2020

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL

Dear Families,

Whether you are new to the St. Rose of Lima community this year, or represent an 8th grader who has been with us since PK, one of my sincerest hopes is St. Rose of Lima feels like home to you.

Each year, we open our doors in the fall to our Garden Oaks and Oak Forest community for the Halloween Festival. While the Festival cannot take place this year due to COVID, we hope to celebrate within our walls, while extending and serving the community through our Blood Drive hosted by MD Anderson.

Even though you will not be able to join us in Halloween Festivities, we will be live streaming pig races, house events and student drawings at Morning Assembly during the Spooktacular Spirit Week ! However, you can join us on campus us by signing up to donate during our Halloween Blood Drive!

SRL is pleased to support one of our own families, The Blaize Family, through the MD Anderson Blood Drive on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 in our parking lot via a mobile unit. If you are curious, please read this document about the safety of donating during COVID.

Ready to sign up to donate? Visit here!

Renee Blaize is a mother of two daughters here at St. Rose. Her husband, Billy started our Co-ed soccer program for our youngest athletes. We are blessed to have the Blaize Family as part of our community since their daughters started at the ECC. We hope you can support them as much as they have supported us through the years.

We are looking forward to arrange more in-person events to get to know you better and serve our community.

Join us for a Spooktacular Blood Drive,

Bernadette L. Drabek, M.Ed.
Class of 1975
WINTER UNIFORM UPDATE

Please be reminded of student dress code policy for cooler weather. You can find the dress code here!

A few things to note:
  • Leggings are not permitted during cooler months, but navy and white tights of any thickness and brand are permitted.
  • PK3 students are permitted to wear any outerwear.
  • A white long sleeve shirt is permitted under uniform tops on cooler days.

Addendum: There is no lost and found this year. Please be sure to label your child's clothing items (especially those blue sweaters/ fleeces) with their names (not initials). Labeled items are returned to their homes much more easily! Thank you for your cooperation.
SCENES FROM CAMPUS TODAY- 4th & 5th Grade

This week, 4th and 5th graders read “If I Built a School” and then designed their dream school! They had to use straws and tape to build it into a 3D model. Here is one from Jasmine V., who included grand plans for the grand opening! There were a ton of creative ideas and creative ways to build their schools, and the students had a ton of fun.
We can't wait to open our new building in March! Stay tuned for details on our Parents Only Tour!
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE - OCTOBER 8, 2020
Brick Work is currently going up on the back of the Building.

A LETTER FROM OUR SCHOOL ADVISORY BOARD PRESIDENT

Dear Families,

It’s my honor to serve as President of your School Advisory Committee (SAC) for the 2020-2021 school year. By way of introduction, I have been part of the St. Rose community since 2010 and my children both attended ECC and are now in PK3 and Kindergarten. As a child, I attended Catholic school and it brings me so much joy to see them learning and growing in the same type of loving and spiritual environment that I did years ago. Now more than ever, I’m motivated to help ensure this continues for my children along with yours. I joined SAC a year ago and would like to share more about it with you.

For more information, including members of SAC, please visit the school website here.
What are goals of the SAC for this school year?

-Review/Advise on the 5 year strategic plan
-Circulate a school-wide survey
-Junior High Marketing Committee
-Empowerment Marketing Committee
-Educate on and increase awareness of SAC via community involvement (i.e. Backpack Blessing)

All the best,
Erica Falcomata
