Greetings from Salt Lake City!

We are deep into winter here in Utah with record-breaking snow in many of our resorts. The crew has been working hard, but sneaking out to some enjoy some deep powder or a silky Nordic trail that soothes the soul. Happy to stoke the envy for those of you reading this from afar...

Incredibly grateful for our staff for putting together another stellar Divisional newsletter. In this edition, we are pleased to spotlight one of our superstar alumni, Dr. Keith White, who is Chair of the Department of Surgery at LSU.

In addition, we are excited to highlight new members to our team, some awards, celebrations, research, new programs...shoot, I’m just going to get out of the way. Enjoy. And as always, we wish you health and happiness.

YOUR GIFT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

It’s tax season! Giving to the U has tax benefits.

Consider the benefits of reducing your taxable income through charitable giving. In general, you can deduct up to 60% of your adjusted gross income. The University of Utah (including Division of CT Surgery) is a qualified charitable organization. There are multiple ways a donation to the U can help reduce your taxes!

  • Charitable gifts aren’t always cash – you can also give stock, mutual funds, insurance, valuable items, donor advised funds, and property.
  • Selling a house? Consider gifting it to the U to reduce your capital gains tax.
  • Setting up your estate? Including the U can help reduce the tax burden for your family.

While your tax advisor can give you specific details for your situation, call on Heidi Green to help think creatively about how you can support the U and reduce your tax burdens.
