Happy Tears for a Mother Living
Through a Cancer Journey
The normalcy of the Joshi family was shattered in 2001 with nine-year-old Aadi's diagnosis of leukemia.
The diagnosis was hard on the entire family but especially on Aadi’s younger brother Neil, as his world was turned upside down.
Aadi and Neil started participating in a pediatric oncology camp funded by Care Camps, West Coast Kids Cancer Foundation, located in Toronto, Ontario. The brothers joined online programs, and then attended in-person camps.
The difference mom, Hema, saw in her boys was incredible. “WCK really helped both of my kids with their mental health,” Hema says. “After going to camp I saw them excited, happy, talking about activities, and thinking about what they will do tomorrow.”
Due to the side effects of his chemotherapy, Aadi usually held his mother’s hand for fear of falling. At camp, she saw him walking without any help and when he ran towards her, she cried.
“It was the best thing,” she says. “It gave me happy tears.”
Thank you for partnering with Care Camps as we fund camps like West Coast Kids who bring the magic of camp to families who need it most.
