In our first year of service (March 2025 - March 2026), our Food Pantry provided 7 days worth of groceries to:

720 Households with 2,110 Individuals

Some households needed help more than once during the year, resulting in a total number of 1,107 Households and 3,404 Individuals served.

Total of number of meals provided: 23,828!
| | Doctors' Day Celebration & Endowment Opportunity | | |
Doctors' Day is celebrated each year on March 30th. This year, in partnership with Mecklenburg County Medical Society (MCMS), we honored doctors who give back alongside Physicians Reach Out founder and past MCMS President, John Klimas, MD, who attended with his wife Kathy Klimas, and daughter Alexa Klimas Corcoran (in below left photo). Several local area physicians and members of our Board also attended.
Former Care Ring Board member Hayes Woollen, MD, who also helped to support the founding of PRO as past-President of MCMS, spoke in honor of Dr. Klimas. Drs. Woollen and Klimas are also past Board Chairs for Care Ring. Kiki Koufaliotis, Executive Director at MCMS, spoke of the important history and relationship between the two organizations and the critical role physicians have always played in the success of PRO. Care Ring CEO Tchernavia Montgomery and Board Chair Andrea Wages also gave remarks.
Care Ring also announced an opportunity to support our new quasi-endowment, managed by Foundation For The Carolinas. Seed money from Mecklenburg County Medical Society, TowneBank, and Wells Fargo, as well as generous private contributions, raised over $52,000.

The Duke Endowment, along with new funder Direct Relief, have generously stepped forward to support our Two Generation Clinic and Physicians Reach Out programs, respectively. Collectively, their gifts of $475,000 will support operations and ensure patients are able to access important medical care. Some of these funds will be distributed over a multi-year period.
Thanks also to Atrium Health & Merancas Foundation for their support of Physicians Reach Out, and to The Bissell Ballantyne Legacy Foundation for their support of Two-Generation Clinic this fiscal year.

The Bridge participates in West Side Wellness Collaboration
In February, Care Ring's The Bridge (a mobile wellness program) began participating in the West Side Wellness Collaboration. Happening on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at First Baptist Church West, it offers mobile health screenings by Care Ring staff, free produce from Deep Roots CPS Farm, and free hot meals from Charlotte Community Services Association (for seniors 55+). The project is funded by LISC Charlotte and CVS Health Foundation.
Two Generation Clinic sees 100th patient
The Two Generation Clinic is a post-partum holistic wellness program for women and babies where every member of the family receives the care they need through a mix of Medicaid and donation-based care.
Launched in July of 2025, it has now seen 105 patients. As the program continues to grow, our goals for FY2028 are to:

Serve 300 mothers & 300 children

Ensure 89% of mothers complete a well-woman visit
-
Screen 100% of mothers for postpartum depression and connect them to resources
-
Screen 95% of mothers for hypertension, with monitoring support if needed
-
Support 88% of moms to initiate breastfeeding

Ensure 95% of children receive developmental screening
-
Keep 92% of children current with immunizations
-
Screen 100% of families for social needs and connect them to resources

3rd Annual Maternal Health Conference a success
Our third annual Maternal Health Conference, presented by Novant Health, was held on April 9th and attracted 320 participants as well as media coverage. South Piedmont AHEC again partnered with us to offer continuing education credits. To see all the highlights from the conference, visit our web page.
AGJ staff receive doula training
Five of the Community Health Workers with our A Guided Journey (AGJ) program along with AGJ Supervisor Omeika Dhanpaul have been undergoing rigorous, time-intensive training for the past several weeks to also become Doulas. This will greatly enhance and expand the services they provide to pregnant and newly post-partum women in our program. They've been training at Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital, with Lugenia Grider, with Atrium Health's Racquel Washington, and Rachel Dean with Queen City Cocoa BEANS (lactation support training). This training was made possible by generous funding from The Leon Levine Foundation.
New Motherhood Support Group
Did you know that suicide is a leading cause of maternal death in the first year of motherhood? Care Ring has teamed up with NAMI Charlotte to offer two different, free motherhood support groups: one for new moms and another for expectant moms. The groups meet monthly and are staffed by qualified mental health professionals from each organization. For more information, contact: kbryant@careringnc.org.

Briah Lumpkins with The Charlotte Observer interviewed our CEO Tchernavia Montgomery as part of a story about Mecklenburg County's 2025 Infant Mortality Report showing a decrease in infant death rates. While intervention and maternal support programs like those offered by Care Ring have made a significant difference in these rates, disparities in outcomes amongst certain groups still persist.

Our Client Choice Food Pantry, in partnership with Nourish Up, is filling a great need in the North End corridor. We need volunteers Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays (new day!) & Thursdays to stock shelves and help shoppers.

In partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Care Ring will be hosting a National Night Out event, block party style!
Focused on neighborhood safety, unity, and FUN, this event will bring together our Lockwood and North End neighbors to eat, dance, and learn more about local businesses and resources available to them.
