Applied RF Series Module 3 - VHF/UHF Television Systems

The four-part Applied RF Series continues with Module 3 – VHF/UHF Television Systems on Thursday, January 18 at 2 pm ET. Jeff Welton, CBRE, Nautel and Gary Cavell, Cavell Mertz & Associates, Inc. present. Session three moves into the television spectrum to look at VHF/UHF broadcast. There will also be significant discussion on ATSC 3.0 – but realize there are already plenty of courses about that topic, so, in this webinar we will focus more on the RF aspect such as generating the signal, broadcasting the signal and what can be done to optimize coverage – height versus antenna gain, maximizing MER and what that means and similar topics.

Spectrum Analysis and the Use of the Spectrum Analyzer in Radio Broadcasting

Greg Buchwald, elected Motorola Science Advisory Board Associate (SABA) presents on Thursday, January 25 at 1 pm ET. His presentation will uncover the various uses and applications of the spectrum analyzer as it relates to radio broadcast engineering. Whether the engineer performs the measurements themselves or utilizes an outside contractor/service provider to do so, understanding the information that can be unlocked through spectrum analysis is fundamental to engineering staff in today’s broadcast environment and industry.

Ways to Re-certify

Last month, I went over how to re-certify by professional credits, below is that information again. It also includes the list of certifications that qualify for re-certifying that way.

What I didn't cover is if you hold a CBT, CRO or CTO, you only need to fill out the corresponding application, make sure all the required information is included and send it in along with the applicable fee.

RE-CERTIFY BY PROFESSIONAL CREDITS

If you hold a level of certification that requires you to re-certify by professional credits (see list below), you will want to keep track of them throughout the five years you hold that certification. Here are a couple documents that can help you keep track.

Brochure (fill-able PDF)

Excel Document

The key is to obtain the number of credits required in a minimum of four categories. Key categories used are:

Category A - Employment

Category E - SBE Membership

Category G - Attending Conference Conventions/Chapter Meetings/Viewing WebExtra's/Viewing the SBE National Meeting Membership Meeting recording

Category H - Attendance at Factory or In-Station schools

Category I - SBE Webinars (There are a few Webinars that are Free to all SBE Members, including the upcoming Workbench Tips with John Bisset)

There are a number of categories that I didn't mention. You can find that information here.

Certifications that require recertification by Professional Credits are:

CBNT, CEA, CEV, CBNE, CBTE, CBRE, CSTE, CSRE, CPBE
