Greetings from Mr. Gault

On Friday, 26 October we had the second speaker in our monthly Career Day program. Dr. Thierry Duchatellier, Chief of Cardiology at Mercy Medical Center and cardiac specialist for St. Francis Hospital, spoke to our students about his career and vocation as a cardiac specialist. He emphasized how fulfilling his career was, but that it took many years of study, hard work and dedication in order for him to reach his goals. His message was inspiring, the boys connected well with his story and gave him a thunderous applause at the conclusion of his presentation.

Saturday, 27 October eighth grade students throughout the Diocese of Rockville Centre sat for the Catholic High School Entrance Exam (CHSEE). Students from The De La Salle School also participated and eagerly wait for January to see to which schools they have been accepted. Please continue to pray for our young men that they are able to continue their Catholic Education in one of our local Catholic High Schools. I am confident that they will be as successful as the class of 2018, all of whom were accepted and are now attending the Catholic High School of their choice. Our ministry to these young men does not end with their graduation from The De La Salle School. Our Graduate Support Program will provide them the opportunity for college visits, mentoring, tutoring, socialization and some financial assistance for Catholic high schools.

During 2019, the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and the Lasallian Family will celebrate the 300th anniversary of the death of our founder, Saint John Baptist de La Salle, Patron Saint of Teachers. The Institute has designated 2019 as the Year of Lasallian Vocations. Pope Francis has declared 2019 a Jubilee Year in honor of 300th anniversary of the death of Saint John Baptist de La Salle. The Jubilee Year will begin on 15 November 2018 and will conclude on 31 December 2019.

The National Council of Catholic Bishops has designated the week of 4-10 November as National Vocation Awareness Week. During this week, we will invite our students to consider their personal vocation and ask them to be open to the possibility of a vocation with the Brothers. Please join us in praying that those entrusted to our care consider service to God and His people as a consecrated religious. For information about the Brothers of the Christian Schools visit www.BrothersVocation.org or contact Brother Timothy Jones, FSC at (516-379-8660) btjones@delasalleschool.org or the district vocation director Brother Francis Eells at (202-577-1721) or eells@FSCDENA.org.

Live Jesus in our hearts....FOREVER!
