News From Mass Digital Health at the Massachusetts eHealth Institute

November 2023

November is Caregiver Awareness Month

November is National Family Caregivers Month, a time to pause and recognize unpaid family caregivers in the Commonwealth and acknowledge the impact these caregivers have on the Massachusetts economy and beyond. Today, there are more than 1.1 million family caregivers in Massachusetts – an increase from 844,000 in 2017.

MassTech/MeHI introduced the Mass Caregiving Initiative to support these caregivers in their communities and workplaces by partnering with the public and private sectors to drive innovation in the Commonwealth. We are also a founding member of The Massachusetts Caregiver Coalition, a public-private partnership of employers, advocates, and government partners committed to recognizing, supporting, and building creative solutions that allow family caregivers to continue to thrive in the workplace while also caring for family at home. MeHI is happy to support companies, like Kinto and Power of Patients, that are addressing the needs of caregivers so they can effectively care for their loved ones while also taking care of themselves.

We encourage everyone to show support and honor our nation's caregivers during National Family Caregivers Month and year-round.

A Note About Our Newsletter

MeHI, the Mass. eHealth Institute at MassTech, has powered the Massachusetts Digital Health Initiative since its launch in 2016 and has overseen work around EHRs, Health IT, and other technology investments at healthcare institutions statewide since the early 2010s. We’ve managed two separate newsletters over the past seven years, but as technology ecosystems have evolved and more common themes have merged between our separate health technology-focused audiences, we’ve made the decision to merge our MeHI and Mass Digital Health newsletters into a single monthly edition.

We’re excited to introduce this new format, which we hope will offer our subscribers a broad perspective on the digital transformation that’s driving healthcare innovation across the state, and provide new learning and collaboration opportunities across our network.

We thank you for your continued support. If you have questions or comments about this switch, feel free to email us at ehealth@masstech.org.
