Did you see the new Carica-Stitch offering in the July newsletter? Last month, legendary embroiderer, John Deer, was featured in SCHMETZ Inspired to SEW. At the same time, John announced a new digitizing service and asked me to test. Lucky me! I didn’t tell him I can no longer embroider on my machine. I emailed John my head shot and voila! John sent back embroidery files. My talented friend, Rosalie, did the stitch-out. It looks fabulous! Take a closer look below and get ready to stitch out holiday gifts.
This week I joined a new community, Studio Art Quilt Associates. SAQA just happens to be the feature in the current SCHMETZ Inspired to SEW. I have admired many SAQA exhibits at various quilt shows throughout North America, but had never taken the time to learn about the organization. Rita Farro did a stellar job interviewing and writing about SAQA. If you enjoy making art quilts, collect, or admire art quilts, look into SAQA membership. You don’t even have to create art quilts to join. What Rita & I discovered is a wonderful, creative, and vibrant community. Enjoy the read and get ready for the upcoming SAQA Benefit Auction. One of the fun new projects John Deer, legendary embroiderer, created is embroidered Carica-Stitch, which launched July 2021. Customers submit a headshot, which is sent off to their talented artist, Daryl, to draw an original caricature. John does the digitizing. For less than $100, you get the embroidery design and PDF run sheet. Of course, Rhonda Pierce was one of the first to jump on this fun opportunity.
