Nicholle,

Ever wonder what makes a place feel like home? Whether you carved turkey at Mom’s, or caught up with long-time friends, I hope your Thanksgiving felt like HOME.

With the holidays upon us, join me in a 2 for 1 gift match and bring HOME, a meal, warmth and hope to your neighbors in need.

Right now, families across Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia and the Carolinas are struggling to provide a meal, shelter, holiday gifts and more to their loved ones. Many don’t have a place to call home this holiday.

DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT! 2024 HOLIDAY MATCH

This year, one of our leading ministry partners has graciously offered to match all donations up to $20,000! That means your gift will go straight to work for thousands of men, women, and children seeking hope and a HOME in our programs. You’ll help provide services this holiday season, such as hot food, shelter, case management, transportation assistance, utility assistance, dignified housing, holiday gifts and more.

Every $1 = $2 for safe shelter, warm meals, and more

The growing crisis of homelessness and hunger is right here in our communities. But your generosity is power – to provide emergency care AND foundational support that can change lives forever.

This Giving Tuesday and holiday season, your kindness goes beyond just a holiday gift—you're helping families find a HOME for good.

Holiday blessings to you and yours,

Russell Snyder

Yes! I want to help today.

This Thanksgiving, we reflected on the power of community and resilience.

When Tropical Storm Helene knocked out power and water at Volunteers of America's Laurel Wood Apartments, one of our senior living facilities, the residents came together to share what little they had with one another. They cooked meals for neighbors, created a “water brigade” to keep things running, and were there for one another.

Our partners, Niagara Bottling, The WASH Foundation, Humana, Good360, Amazon and givers of hope like YOU also stepped in to ensure these bold seniors had access to essentials including clean water.

Last week, our seniors were blessed to receive a hearty Thanksgiving meal made possible by VOA's partnership with World Central Kitchen to celebrate their courage and kindness. It’s a beautiful reminder that even in challenging times, we can lean on each other and build something stronger.

Read about the celebration and what it meant to our seniors in the Asheville Citizen Times article below. Let’s continue to spread gratitude, love, and hope this season.

Do you live in the DC Metropolitan Area? Are you looking for an easy, innovative and fun way to give back this holiday season? Then come test out the Light the World Giving Machines at Tysons Corner Center!

The Giving Machine is a popular and visible part of Light the World, the annual Christmas initiative sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Giving Machines are in high-traffic areas of select cities worldwide. Each machine includes dozens of cards representing items and services needed in communities that you can help global and local nonprofits provide.

For our second year in a row, Volunteers of America is partnered with five other amazing charities in this remarkable effort. Now through Jan 2nd, you can support those most in need using the Giving Machines stationed near the AMC Movie Theatre on the third floor of Tysons Corner Center.

Who knew that you could literally “vend joy”! With how fast paced our lives and the holidays have become, the Giving Machines make giving back quick and convenient while you shop for your loved ones. Instead of buying snacks and beverages using a normal vending machine, you can select from an array of needs in the community, and tap your credit card to donate to . . .

  • provide a warm meal to a senior in need
  • fill a tank of gas for a struggling veteran
  • give toys to kids who normally go without
  • cover the utility bill to keep a family warm
  • buy bedding for formerly homeless adults

Last year, mall shoppers helped VOA raise $16,550 through the Giving Machines to provide care and support to men, women and children who would normally go without.
